Midland R65 Rebuild Problem - Please help
So I went through and replaced all the bearings of my 5 speed midland as it has a rattling noise in 2nd and 3rd gear. From what I was told, it was the input shaft bearings as it shifted very smoothly otherwise.
I went through the same rebuild as shown here:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...mentation.html
I did do a bench test. My problem is that I put it back in the car, but when I did a running engine test, while the car was on jacks, the transmission would lock up in 2nd and 3rd. First and reverse were OK.
I removed the transmission again, ugh, and took it apart. The only think I could find is that, when in 2nd, there was another gear partially touching one of the input drive gears causing the gears to lock and grind. The only think I can think of is that I didn't press on a bearing far enough as their is a little play on the rear bearing of the drive shaft, but has anyone else had this problem after a rebuild?
My tranny is down and my car is dead right now. Any suggestions?

So I wound up taking into a shop and actually said 'I did a pretty good job' rebuilding it
, so it doesn't appear I made any errors and yes, I did reinstall the clips and tighten the bolts and rear nuts (notched them too).
They did notice that one of the shift forks is worn and are working to braze and post machine it back to spec. We'll see what happens...
Thanks

Wow, that's actually really good news. When I rebuilt mine I got maybe 3k miles out of then lost 3rd,5th, then reverse. Good job man. Glad to hear it's something as small (in this case) a shifter fork!
