Twitchy over bumps

Hello all! I've recently traded my R55 for a R60 ALL4 S with the Sport Package and sport suspension. It's a 2012 with 22k miles and Goodyear all-season runflats.

I'm planning on replacing the runflats very soon but was wondering if I can expect more stable handling over bumps and potholes or should I look to do further suspension mods?

The best way to describe the behavior is when I hit a pothole with 1 tire, all four will jump, especially under acceleration. I remember my Clubman doing this with it's original runflats and replacing those fixed 90% of the issue. I also added a NM strut brace and Hotchkins rear-sway bar.

Can I expect a similar improvement or is this the way it'll be with the sport suspension? Thanks!

I will chime in that my '13 Countryman is similarly jumpy over bumps in an alarming way, and always has been. My '06 MCS coupe, though it rides rougher than the Countryman, does not have that twitchy/jumpy characteristic.

I have non-runflats on the Countryman at the moment, and that does not eliminate the issue, though it may help. If you have any luck, I'd certainly appreciate knowing what you did!

Glad to hear its not just me. Planning on ordering the bars this weekend so I'll let you know in a few weeks what happens.

You will see for sure an amelioration of the behavior of your car by replacing the runflats!!I did that and the cars suspension changed completely.

Can't compare RFs generically to non RFs. Would need to compare specific types. My switch on CM from Pirelli Sotto zero to Continental DWS06 did not reveal earth shattering changes.

A few weeks back I put a Meagan strut brace and WMW 22m rear sway bar on my CMS and the difference is stark.

The car is more stable over bumps and the body roll in turns is greatly reduced. The back end is really stable under acceleration in turns also. There mods have made the car about 85% of my old R55 from a handling standpoint.

I highly recommend these mods which were reasonably priced and easy to install. Doing business with Way was also a great experience (as usual). He helped answer a few questions while I was in the middle of the install.

Next step is new tires!

Bars

I had Way install the WMW rear sway and the Megan shock brace about a year ago and it helped my car a bunch too. Can't go wrong for the money.

it got even better when i added a front upper strut brace

I put a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport AS3+ on and had a front end alignment done. Mechanic said, "your toe was so far in I'm surprised you could drive this straight".

Needless to say the combination of new tires, proper alignment and the bars has made a world of difference.

i have the same 2 options on my 12 all4.

switching to non-runflat Michelin pilot super sports eliminated 90%, adding an front upper strut brace helped a little more.
