Power Steering Recall Questions

The Mini Recall website shows that the Power Steering Recall #15V-660 has not been accomplished on my '03 MCS. I read the letter to owners and didn't see any drop dead date, is a vehicle as old as mine still covered by the recall? Also, for those of you who have had the recall done, how long did they have your car? Will I likely need to leave it with them for a day or two? Just curious because I'll have to arrange transportation home if I have to leave it with them.....I'm lucky(?) my DW does not drive...

If you call your MINI dealership with your VIN, they'll tell you if you're covered. When I had mine done it took them about 3 hours. I just sat and waited for it.

The recall involves R50, R52 and R53 models produced from September 12th 2001 to February 9th 2005. As long as you fall into that range they will check your pump. No mileage limit or anything.

Did any of you have any parts changed due to the recall or just an inspection. Wonder what their criteria is for pump or fan replacement. Thanks for your help!

New pump installed. The old one had already crapped the bed when I brought it in.

The pump gets inspected. If it's one of the bad part numbers you will get a new pump , fan and harness if it's bad too. If the pump is fine you don't get anything .

They put a new pump and fan on mine. Even gave me a loaner car for overnight (I dropped my car off at 3:00 pm in the afternoon) Picked up my car the next day. They offered to do a lot more work at significant $$ but I declined.

Bought my 03 1.5 weeks ago, had the recall done Friday. They replaced the pump and fan, no harness. Took 3hrs. Easy peezy. My closest dealer is 2hrs north, up into Canada. Still real easy.
