03 MCS intro

Hey guys, just wrote a big long intro and had my phone delete it. Awesome haha. Here's a short and to the point version.
Just bought my first Mini, after seeing it advertised on a Facebook buy sell with almost no description, no mention of an S, and one picture. Drove the 4miles across the border to Canada and test drove it. Bought it next day for my offer of $3100 cad after the French couple was moving back to France. Ended up $2360 usd and no duty as it was originally a US car sold in New York.
03 Chili red S with 98k miles, clean title, fully loaded with HK, heated black leather, sunroof with visors, xenons, etc.
Needed a gas cap o-ring, getting the ps recall done tomorrow, ordered a passenger headlight (failed ignitor, will replace and sell) needs a passenger cv boot (will replace the axle) and will do a full brake job. Already put full blown snow tires on it, so we will see how it does. Already love it.
Enough jabbering. Here it is the first time I saw it.

Score! Sir you did well. Love how you went across the border and the exchange rate was very much in your favor. That's low milage, lol. I have 170,000 almost on my car. A lot of the maintenance and preventive maintenance you can do will keep this Mini running a long time. Enjoy and keep us post. Welcome aboard.

Thanks guys! Pretty excited. Today is the first snow drive 2hrs to the Kelowna BMW dealer for the recall. After the maintenance I listed, I'll be doing all the fluids as well. Then I think I'm going with a 17% pulley, belt, tensioner strap, msd coil and colder plugs. We will see what else pops up. I'm a self employed mechanic/automotive restorer so I can do everything myself, which is a plus when the clutch goes (book time 12 hours, ugh).

As for the name, I go by BK, but username had to be 3 letters, so I used my initials. Pretty sure the BTK killer was caught, or was he framed.. muahahahaha.

Been driving it and loving it. All the women think it's cute or adorable. Most of my guy friends and even random dudes seem to love it too, haha. Let my mom take it for a day, she really likes it, so I may buy her an automatic non cvt one.
Got the headlight replaced, works great. Slightly different color bulbs which bugs me, so I'll end up putting matching bulbs in it. Gas cap o ring took care of that issue.
Had a P0128 which usually points to thermostat, but hasn't come back since. Keeping a close eye on Temps. Got a P1688, which from reading is more than likely bpv or harmonic balancer. Bpv seems to have proper spring tension, or at least some, so I'm going to probably replace the balancer after I put it on the lift and check it out. One idea I have is that the grease from the leaking torn cv boot flings onto the belt occasionally, causing it to slip and causing the slipping belt or sudden drop in pressure to trigger the code. I have the axle, and the Alta parts are on their way.
May be ordering the r1 concepts drilled slotted rotors with ceramic pads from Amazon. I haven't mic'ed the rotors but for the $15/each for resurfacing I pay, I can do new rotors. It's just a commuter, not a track car.
I'm torn with making the car less, girly...? I'm not a red fan, and wish it had a black roof and mirrors. Any favorite red minis that look manly (as possible haha), or mean, while having the red body white roof? I do have 4 gallons of anthracite grey metallic Plastidip brand new, from another project. I will suggest that if you are replacing the harmonic balancer do go with the ATI and only the ATI. As a daily driver I would not go above 15% pulley-----the extra 2% just adds ware and tear and really no effective boast to the motor in stock trim.

I'm either going ATI or upgraded stock. I'd like the 17% pulley as I'm a low rpm driver and moving the power and torque a little lower will be convenient, especially when my mom borrows it or the gf takes it. Along with the pulley I'm doing coil, plugs, and wires. May try to get a JCW tune with 380 at some point.

The 17% pulley will require colder plugs. ATI makes a @5 over balancer. Way Motor Works carries them. I am surprised you need extra boast for your mother.
