Mini Countryman Tune

Hi all,

I've been discussing with a local tuning shop about what ECU tuning options they have available for my 2014 Mini Countryman S. According to the tuner I spoke to I can expect from their tune an increase from stock output of 135kw to approximately 195kw and torque gain would be approximately 120nm. Stock is about 240nm they reckon they can pump out 360nm. It isn't a plug in module or chip it's a custom tune which takes two days, they do lots of logging to make sure it run smooth without issues. Oh and this power increase is without any other mods.

These guys are amazing tuners and do some incredible tunes to Audi, BMW, Mercs and have endless reviews of how happy customers are. To me this power increase seems unrealistic for such a small engine.

What are your thoughts guys? Can a stock countryman handle this sort of power?
Is it possible to extract that sort of power by simply tuning it?

My opinion is based off of non-MINI's, so if I am off base, someone correct me. Given that, with a lot of factory turbo cars, they are tuned for efficiency and there will almost ALWAYS be room for someone tuning aftermarket. HOWEVER, keep in mind there will always be factory limitations such as injectors, fuel pump, turbo capabilities, and drivability from tune.

Given the conversion to hp, I would be quite shocked if theyre able to squeeze that much power from a stock turbo, and if they do, longevity would be a major question. Hope that helps.

The CM has the same N18 motor as the R56. With a tune only and no other mods I see about 40HP and 50TQ gains.

That's a nice increase.. Mario, is that with just the Manic Stage 1 tune correct?

Tuning on the Turbo MINIs is the biggest bang for the buck and really can net some big gains. Just have to make sure they are also considering reliability. As you can get more with more boost but long term too much can be a bad thing. So have a good talk with that tuner to make sure he has your best interest in mind.

We do tuning all the time and offer tunes in our shop or by shipping the ECU to us.

Yes, that's with Stage 1, stage two with downpipe, intercooler and colder spark plugs can can get you closer to 60-70hp

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll have a chat to the tuners and discuss options which won't effect reliability. Once I do have a tune done what other engine mod would you recommend?

The best octane you can find in your area, larger intercooler, downpipe and colder spark plugs

do the tune after the mods. in other words, it is like getting an alignment done and then putting on the new tires.
