miscellaneous mods not available???

Ive had my 2015 Mini Hardtop for almost a year now. I love how it drives and overall a great car. Except one problem: when they sold it to me they told me i could do a lot of stuff later to it such as a bike and roof rack and other things you would buy for your car like a cell phone holder for the dash. He explained to me that minis are extremely customisable cars and how every mini is different.

Well, I picked the wrong straw because my mini isnt compatible with anything. They have told me that because of my vin number I cant get roof racks or a bike rack or just about anything aftermarket. I had an extremely hard time trying to find something to hold my phone on the dash and that doesnt even work well.

Now it drives great. Its had its moments but better than any other car. Its just I live in the mountains now and It would be good to have these things based off of my lifestyle. basically what Im asking is; is what MINI saying legitimate, and if so has anybody else had these problems and how did they get around it. This is what i want it to look like:

The dealer told me the same thing. It would cost 1k bucks to have them add the roof rails. Then I learned they have to remove the headliner to do so. I wasn't crazy about them taking anything apart, so I didn't do it. I later learned that Yakima roof rack has a fit for the F56. Turns out I have all the parts for the rack from my previous car, just need the clips that fit the mini. If you go the Yakima route, you can then attach the basket to the cross rails. Looks like the one in the picture is bolted straight on to the car.

is there any way i can get a roof rack without already having the rails? Im a bit confused, does the yakima require the stock rails or can I get some. I called about the ones mini sells and they said my car does not have the part to attach them. I watched a video of a guy putting them on and it looked like he was just removing a piece of rubber and clamping them on. Why wouldnt I have the right parts? There doesnt seem to be any necessary parts, but Im no mechanic .

Mini doesn't make them. You have to go aftermarket. Yakima makes a part called a Q Tower. You'll need Clips that are shaped to the roof of your car and are attached to the Q Towers. They basically hold the rack onto your car by gripping the roofline under the rubber trim. The Q Towers sit on the roof top and pull the clips in, creating grip. No holes no drilling. I've used Yakima racks for over 17 years. Good quality and then you'll be able to attach most anything to them.

Here is a picture where you can see the clips attaching under the trim. They are attached to the Q Towers and then the cross bars attach to the Q Towers. The bars in this picture are way too long.

The Mini Click & Drive or Cravenspeed Flex Pod are what you want for the phone.

You just need to look around this forum and you'll find a plethora of mods that are available. You're trying to stay with the OEM route and that does restrict your choices. Aftermarket vendors will in most cases have what you're looking for or are in the process of developing the part.

I have the Yakima rack. It works great. Fits under the rain gutter lip. Yakima provides pretty good instructions to installation.
