Mud flaps have no red glue strip?

Hey all,

I just got my mud flaps in the mail (from some cheap china ebay site, but they seem like they're OEM) and there's none of the red plastic that's supposed to be there covering double sided tape/glue.

Is there something I can replace this with? I thought about using a double sided foam tape, but it might cause a gap since it's a foam tape.

Would something like a standard double sided tape be strong enough to match the OEM glue?
There's also the option of using a thinner double sided foam tape

Do I even really need the glue?

Any help is very appreciated.

The OEM ones are just double sided tape so you should be fine. It's about one eighth of an inch thick.

E-bay strikes again.....
The joy of a great price is quickly soured when you realize that the price was lower cause things were left off....add $8 for the tape, the time it took to get the info....and maybe eBay is not such a good deal...
Maybe they are OEM...maybe just knockoffs that will get brittle...
I guess if you are going to buy eBay parts from China, "non-critical" parts are the way too go...
I always got nervous seeing an address halfway around the world....makes fixing issues a game of email tag.....IF they choose too respond.

Totally agree, but for 40 bucks if I end up having to replace the set in a few years it's not a huge deal for me.

3M makes a 3/8" wide foam tape for automotive use, it's about 1/16" thick.

I bought mine from Outmotoring and they came with the adhesive double sided tape which I left covered so I could remove the flaps without hassle. I honestly wouldn't bother with the strips, the don't stick for s*&t even when you clean the plastic with alcohol.

Yeah, the tape on there doesn't look like it would do very much. After reading up on different instructions, it seems to me like most of the work is done by the clips and screws, and I'm thinking the tape is just there to make it sit flush to the fender. I doubt it really does much to keep it attached, so I'll go ahead and install mine without it. If I don't like its mounting security, then maybe I'll go pick up some tape but I don't think that's going to be the case.

Thanks for the help!
