Thermostat Unavailable

Our 2012 CM has been at the dealer for almost a month now waiting on a thermostat. Dealer put us in a loaner for a week and currently in a rental. I spoke to the service department today and was told we are now number 15 on the list. He said they are getting 5 thermostats per week, so we are still looking at about 3 more weeks in the rental. I heard the original company making the thermostats closed down and MINI had to source a new vendor. Anyone else have an issue with their thermostat?

that's a pretty common replacement item to have such a long lead time, pretty scary...

Yes it stinks! I've been trying to get one for about 6 weeks. My dealer does say that they are "trickling in" after a 4 month back order. Once it does come in and my car is repaired, I'm putting it up for sale. This is inexcusable!

2012 Countryman Thermostat - compensation from company??

My car just failed inspection in NC due to what appears to be the super common issue with the Mini Countryman thermostat. And, I've been told these are on a national back order with no estimated delivery date in site for folks waiting. I'm over 60K miles and out of warranty, but it seems if this is a common issue, Mini should be covering this - right? If not compensating owners in some way for the inconvenience...

Anyone have advice on how to handle the inspection issue?? What an MESS.

It definitely is an inconvenience having this item back ordered. This happened to the R56 earlier this year as well. As far as for the inspection, you might be able to call the DMV and tell them their is a national back order on an item you need to fix in order to pass inspection. They might require you bring in documentation from a dealer stating so. Otherwise, they should give you a temp tag for a certain amount of time until the item comes back into stock so you can fix the issue for inspection. I've gone this route before for a similar issue.

Hopefully we will have stock on this item soon - http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...&I1.x=0&I1.y=0.

Failing in what way?

Thermostat has not gone out yet in our car.
How has this part failed? External coolant leak? Stuck closed or open?
I'm not looking forward to this, but would like to know better what to expect.
Thanks

I receive a check engine light. When the code was checked (P0597) it showed a thermostat heater control circuit open. In addition I will occasionally receive the "reduced engine power" notice. The thermostat has now begun seeping along once of the joints in the plastic housing.

Earlier this week I received a call from my dealership (160 miles away) that they have a thermostat in stock. They sent it to me an I have it scheduled to be installed locally next Thursday.
