Backfires / Pops Sport Mode RON 93

Hi Guys

Got back home and noticed the R58 was being driven by my wife.

She picked me up and I noticed the Sport mode lost it's great pop/backfires which is designed into the DFI motor by dumping xtra fuel.

Here is what I didn't know the Mini now had a full tank I asked her what fuel she put in the tank. She responded it said 89 on the Fuel door so that's what I used.

So the 89 RON will not allow the the same amount of backfires it must retard the ignition timing just enough to mellow the Sport Mode sounds.

Threw in some Techtron then when tank at 50% 93RON and all is now normal again with regard to sounds in Sport Mode.

it is recommended to run the JCW engine with Premium. We have 92 in WA while mid grade is 89. Blends and additives are not the same depending where you live.

I am among the few who don't like the backfires and burbles feature and prefer a mellow exhaust tone. Mine is popping really loud from time to time depending of the temperature

I tried 89 before and it doesn't make any difference.

Interesting that you didn't notice a difference in the pops and burbles. Here in Florida it's very evident with regard to the sound.

If you think the Mini is bad I should take you for a ride in my wife's Porsche when in the Sport mode and Sport exhaust it sounds like machine gun fire when you lift off the gas. Actually makes me laugh it's so over the top.

My race cars don't even sound that good and they have so much more performance.

Take Care
Ian
