A/C compressor issue - clutch coil replacement

After installing a new clutch coil, the new pulley does not spin freely. I tried putting the old pulley on since it's the coil that goes bad and the clutch loomed OK to me and it spun until the bolt to hold the front plate is put in. I don't think I'm over tightening considering the diy I have seen used an impact to tighten. Any insight as to what the issue could be?

Haven't done this job on a Mini, but do you think you could have dropped or lost a washer/spacer when taking it apart? Sounds like the pulley is going on too "deep" and rubbing against something.

The information I saw on a kit from Amazon is that the snap-rings are thicker than what's on the car. Also the pulley is a little thciker than OEM, so you might need to use extra shims (the old ones, plus the ones supplied in the kit).

If you have voltage to the coil but it's not locking up then a new coil is required. You can find a new coil/pulley on Amazon or eBay for around $40. Just be careful when removing the bolt that holds it on to your A/C compressor. I made the mistake of using an impact wrench to try to remove mine (Torx bolt) and it broke it in half deep into the pulley. No amount of effort could remove it so I had to buy a new compressor (yuck!). You can also buy a reman compressor for around $115 with the coil in place.
