R58 Yellow engine icon
Yellow engine icon
When I first started my engine the red " Maintenance" icon flashed momentarily on the tach module and then disappeared.
Then I noticed a yellow "engine" icon appeared on the larger speedometer module.
After stoping and restarting the engine the red "Maintenance" icon did not flash again but the yellow "engine" icon still comes on.
I checked everything under the hood and all is ok.
I changed the oil and filter about 50 miles back and rotated the tire at the same time as I do my own maintenance.
The car is a 2013 coupe and has just turned 13K miles on it so I'm thinking that it is the CBS telling me it's time for an oil change or something.
How do I find out for sure if that's all it is and how do I reset the CBS?
The owners manual just tells me to take it to the dealership to be checked.
I live over 100 miles from the nearest dealership so if a reset is all that is needed it would be stupid to drive it that far just to get it reset.

HI
Buy a OBD port reader its easier then below method either will work.
To enter the service Menu:
Insert Key
Do not press clutch / brake
Press Start button
Wait until the Car / revelant Service symbol disappears on the Rev counter display
Immediately after the symbol goes out - Press and hold Both buttons on the Rev Counter
Continue to hold - the system Will run a dash light check:rolleyes:
Continue to hold
Display will then show VIN / Menu, - continue to hold through this until the time Reappears on the display.
Now release Only the Right hand Button (trip reset) for about a second, and then press and hold again (whilst still holding the LH button)
After another second of 2 the display will show the Front Brake Symbol You Are Now in the Service Menu:D
Use the BC Button (on indicator stalk) to scroll through to the relevant symbol - eg Rear Brakes
To Reset the*warning*indicator light - Press & Hold the BC Button at the revelant symbol until RESET appears - then press and hold again until the process is complete.
Turn Off and On the Ignition again -*Warning*should now have gone!

The owners manual said I was to call the dealership if the yellow engine light came on so I did.
The Mini service department told me that if the yellow engine light was on that it was not a service issue and something was wrong with the engine.
They told me it would have to come into the dealer ship and since I was covered under the roadside assistance plan he gave me their number to call and have them pick it up to bring into the dealership.
He told me that when they were through working on it the roadside service would bring it back to us.
He said they do this all the time and it not a problem.

Dealership called this morning and told me the yellow engine light came on because the oil filler cap was not completely sealed letting air in.
I guess when I changed the oil I didn't get the cap back on correctly.

I sincerely don't feel comfortable with this aspect of my Mini ownership.
Yikes, yea , make sure its all the way on. Did you use the oil filter cap socket and pre lube the oil lid gasket ?

I've changed the oil on this Mini several times so far and this time I guess I didn't get the oil filler cap on just right.
The oil "filter" cap was not the problem.

I am wondering what "Roadside Assistance" really means when the nearest dealer is about 100 miles away and the car is still under warranty and maintenance program as mine. Does that means they will drop a loaner on a flat bed and bring back my car a few days later?

I believe they will. In addition I believe there is some accommodation for you if you are stranded and need lodging.
The dealership asked me if I needed something to drive while they had our Mini and I told them no. Pretty sure they would have brought us a loner if needed.
The roadside assistance saved us two trips to the dealership at 200 miles each so I am thrilled the dealership suggested I use this service.
In addition, even though the problem was created by me and the Mini was out of the " Free Maintenance " time period, the dealership performed all maintenance that would be required at the mileage and age of our Mini at no charge.
Really instills confidence in this dealerships willingness to take care of their customers.
The dealership is Jackie Cooper Mini Cooper in Edmond Oklahoma and the service manager who took care of us was named Steve.
By the way, the roadside assistance was absolutely great, very well qualified and helpful.

Wow, that dealership went way beyond what most companies would do considering it was all on you. You should send that guy a gift certificate for a nice dinner for two. How far is the commute to OK for me, a bit too far.

Yea the filler cap in the front i just a align the tabs and this a quick 1/4 twist. Guess easy to forget. Most of the time if it sucks any air , the engine will start to run very rough.
