Flying Plywood

This happened Monday on the way to work. Waste Management truck was in the middle lane driving about 2 car lengths in front of me and I was on the left lane. 2 huge plywood flew out of the back and struck my car. There was no way of dodging it but to move right but that would have struck my driver side if I tried. I chased him down and kept honking but he did not stop. I got his license plate and made a police report but I keep hearing that they're not liable for incidents like these? I called Waste Management and told them what happened and they told me they would contact me after 48 hrs.

If the plywood came from the truck then yes they should be liable but if it got kicked up from the road way then no they should not.

That's good to hear. Yes, it flew off the truck and straight towards my car. It did not bounce off the ground or anything.

The fine for an unsecured load in Washington State is $216. If something flies off a vehicle and causes property damage, the driver may be subject to misdemeanor charges and a fine of $1,000. If someone is injured, the driver may be charged with a gross misdemeanor, which could result in a $5,000 fine and up to one year in jail.

Waste management surely has mucho insurance to cover that. They probably pay out all the time. Just be nice, cause some of those disposal companies can disappear you without a trace.

Good luck. Don't expect much to happen from the police report and the waste management company.

The sad news...... this is road hazard and you will have to pay your deductible to have your car fixed.

I have gone through far worse and it is the reason we have insurance.

Sorry to hear about this.

Don't expect much help your on your own your insurance company can try and go after them but not likely.

I had a similar incident a few years back. This was my SL55AMG 6K in damage never drove right after repair.

Reporting back after 2 months... No luck with trying to fight the city. BS story though, Waste Management denied my claim because they said that I gave them the wrong license plate number which I received from the police report. I decided to call the police station to ask for the recording because I knew I read out the correct plates to the dispatcher. They tell me another ridiculous thing and said they couldn't find the recording. I thought all calls into 911 were recorded!?!?! Anyways, I'm very happy with the repairs and I can't believe they gave me a whole new front end with the small damage I had.

From your pictures posted before, it seems you had a right side top structural damage and the right passenger window has a gap.

Did they replaced the entire roof with new pillars?
