HK system with extra sub and amp. Possible?
My friend have a 12" sub and an amp laying around, so he decided to give them to me. I currently have HK system in my car. Is it possible for me to add in these units without spending too much money for accesories? Thank you in advanced.
Other HK owners have added a sub and amp. Some things to think about-
Get separate volume control for the sub.
Are you getting an enclosure for the 12" sub? will it fit in the MINI's boot? If not then back seat or make another enclosure to fit into the boot.
Where are you going to install the amp? is it too bid to fit on the floor of the boot or on the back of one of the rear seats?
Will it really sound that much better? Maybe not. Only marginally but it depends on how you do the settings for the HK and how much bass you like. Why won't it be that much better? because having more bass won't really help HK since the highs and midrange are all the same HK speakers and the amps to the HK speakers are all the same.
Also your results may vary depending on what amp you are getting and how much power it is providing to that large 12" sub (how efficient is it?).
Please do note you will loose storage space in your boot by adding a large subwoofer and amp. It is also very heavy which isn't helping performance.

Thanks Minihune for your advice. I was very concern with the weight also, but this would be a fun project for me so I am willing to test it out. If anything goes wrong or I don't like it, I'll just take it off.
Since, I am no audio expert and been searching for intruction how to install, but no luck. Could you please help me? Greatly appreciated.

I suppose it can be real easy or real difficult. Because the HK has different modes where speakers are used in different ways, you have to choose carefully where you tap into the signal. For instance, if the rear speakers are being used in subwoofer mode, a tap on that line should give you a pretty good signal to use, but if they are being used in a mode where they are including other frquencies, it probably has been processed like crazy to match the frequency curve of those rear speakers.
