2006 Mini S JCW kit

So I'm considering adding a '06 JCW S to the stable. Fun little car, had a blast driving it, as I have not driven manual for over 10 years! I'll be honest, I stalled it a couple times....lol

6 speed JCW, panoramic roof, non-power leather seats, 63k miles, used dealer wants $13k. Decent condition. Some minor cosmetic issues inside and out, but mechanically, sound condition.

Anything to look out for? Any potential issues that may come up? Is this price fair? I'm not too familiar with Mini's. Most of my knowledge revolves around BMW 3 series.

Any help, feedback, advice would be very much appreciated! And I apologize if this is in the wrong forum

Thank you all!

Sounds like good mileage. How does the clutch pedal feel? Visually inspect the serpentine belt for cracks or wear. Check brake and clutch fluid to see if they are dirty. Look at top of strut mounts in front to see if they are rounded or flat. Any owner-added mods or factory stock? In the meantime, here is some good background reading:

Clutch felt good, engages pretty low. I'll take a look at the car again and look out for your suggestions.

Awesome, thank you sir!

No, not yet. I haven't decided if I want to purchase yet. But if I do, I'll take it to the mini dealer in town.

How's your search going? Or, did you purchase?

Thanks!

These are fun cars. I just purchased a 05 JCW 210 3 weeks ago. Things to look for. ALL VIN stickers intact. I missed the one in the door as the panel had been replaced an they forgot the sticker. Caused me a hastle at DMV. in the end I got one from the dealer for $17 and finally got title. make sure the strut top, windshield, drivers door and rear hatch under the license plate match.

Mechanical - all normal wear issues, oil leaks, belt, Control arm bushings. I knew all these items would probably be shot after 10 years. don't be scared but know going in. plan on spending around $500 on parts to make sure all suspension bushings are new and put 100% new oil seals and gaskets in. it will be a bonding experience with the car and you will be very happy you did.

I have replaced my struts, Brakes, and will soon be doing the oil seals, lower control arm bushings and ball joints. I feel the difference now with the R56 brakes, SS brake lines and the Koni yellow. when the bushings go in the car will be tight and dialed. It is too much HP to not be dialed. you will want to hit corners hard.

Make sure what ever car you get. Flush all fluids. Engine oil, Transmission oil, Brake fluid, Coolant, Everything. A new Belt, Sparkplugs, Wires, air filter, cabin air filter. Make everything new. You don't know the history of the car. you want to start fresh. The car will reward you for it.

As for the price. KBB. I looked long and hard for a MCS no sunroof good body and under 80K miles. Finally found a JCW 210 that was not part of my spec for $7000 with 75K miles. but it was 100 miles away and in a different state. (hence the VIN inspection) JCW in my state similar condition with over 100K are going for $7500 to $8500. $13000 seems really high. but maybe that is because it is at a dealer rather than private party.

Wow, I appreciate your post, thank you for the advice!

I do agree, I think $13k is high as well. And its not in pristine condition either.

the 06 will cost more than the 05, just due to the fact that it's a factory option year. I have an 05 but had to switch to an 06 just so I could run d-street autocross

only 2-3 for sale on the east coast right now, I had to drive 400 miles to get mine

Do you think it's a fair price?

And congrats on picking up your Mini!

KBB values an excellent condition fully optioned Red 2006 Cooper S JCW with 50,000 miles on the clock at $10,250.

Enter the last 7 of VIN in the decoder to find out how the car is optioned (a factory JCW will have options 3AL and 2TA) and then price it using KBB.

Thanks for this tip. I checked the vin, everything was factory installed.

Some minor cosmetic issues, like the paint chipping/flaking away on the driver side interior door handle (my old 2001 X5 had this issue, so annoying), rubber trim over the driver side rear quarter panel has a little gouge, center armrest won't stay still haha. Otherwise, paint is in good shape, seats are decent, clutch feels good, drives well, clean carfax and autocheck.

So right now, I'm at $12k out the door, dealer sale. Decent deal?

Also pull up the weather stripping along the bottom of the side door sills to look for rust. Water gets trapped there so some is normal, but if it's really extensive I'd show them and try to haggle down the price.
