Interior/Exterior 15 inch wheels on R53 JCW (with spacers)?
15 inch wheels on R53 JCW (with spacers)?
Hi guys,
I've read 15 inch wheels wouldn't fit an R53 JCW or stock R56, because of the front brake calipers being too big.
I was wondering if someone knew where the actual point is where they touch?
I'm thinking of mounting some small spacers to create a gap between rim and caliper and perhaps making this install possible..
My current wheels are 9,5kg and the ones i'm after are 5,5kg, so that would be a massive loss in weight!

It all depends on the actual profile and offset of the wheels you are contemplating. If you're successful and plan on driving it hard, like on track, be sure to adequately duct because the close proximity of the wheels to the brakes will cause temps to rise excessively.
You could test it before buying the wheels by finding out the actual inside diameter of the back side of the wheel which will go over the caliber and then taking a measurement from center of hub to furthermost point on the caliber.. If that works then you'd need to check for depth/offset of the wheel center/spokes hitting the face of the caliber which a spacer would help with this.. Maybe someone with 15'' wheels will chime in to let you know..

yes, 2006 factory jcw with the big fronts, I had no space issues, I run 16x7 for ax, and 15x8 for track
I only install them before I go to ax/track, I'm running tiny tires so my speedo is like 10mph off I cant really comment on street durability

also my 16x7 ax wheels/tires are basically the same weight as the 15x8, I wish I could use 15x8 in d-stock, I think the re71r handles a little better when it's stretched a little bit but I have not done any scientific testing on that theory
