R50/53 '02 MCS or '03 MCS, that is the question
I was wondering you guys and gals opinion on my perdicament. I can get a '02 DS/W (#1,#2) with 0 miles that what born sometime in sept. with the last of the 02's. I can get this car at msrp (here in socal thats a big deal) or get a '03 IB/W (#1,#2,#3, with leather) but I would have to pay about $900 for shipping. Do you think there is a huge difference between the 02's and the 03's to warrent going with the '03 even though the '02 is the exact car I want, minus the fact it is already a year old. With all the talks of defects and problems with '02 mini's, I was wondering if the new '03's have been less plagued by defects. Any help would be great.

Take the '02 now!!!!!!
To my knowledge, there aren't that many worthwhile changes - especially not b/w late build '02s.
I also favor the DS/W color combo, but that's a personal thing.
My main point is you can start MOTORIN' sooner - which is worth lots - and for less $, that's just a bonus feature.
If the car is at 0 miles, and it is a "year old," then you are well on your way to having a low mileage car if you're worried about resale value in a few years.
I could go on with reasons to get it now, rather than wait, but I think you get the gist of my opinion!

I don't recall which order the packages are listed in, but in SoCal, I doubt you need to be concerned with the Cold Weather package (is that #3?). I really like the Sport and Premium packages though.
The one problem is, the '02 has been sitting at the VPC since 10/8 and no one seems to know what is going on. And the '03 is only a week or so away. Also as for the cold weather package in SoCal, I am actually moving to DC at the end of the spring. I guess the main question is do I want to pay the cost of shipping on the '03. AHHH!
The build date is still a mystery, when I checked it again, it actually was supposed to be delivered to the dealership on the 8th of october, but alas, it is still sitting at the damn VPC, I'm begining to wonder if it got wrecked like one of the other forum members. But ask-mini, the Owner's Lounge, and the dealership have no idea. Go figure
I have an 2003 MC with a build date of 09/13. It arrived at the VPC on 09/27 and the dealership on 10/02. I was under the impression that 09/01 was the actual date that the 2003s were started. Not trying to confuse you, just giving you more info. I would say a year-end 2002 would be as good as a first off the line 2003. Couldn't be that much difference.
Go for the 2002 and enjoy it now!!!
