Uh-oh! Newbie bought an '05 convertible!

Just got back from completing the sale on a 2005 Mini Cooper (base) convertible. Manual transmission, Chilli Red body, black top and interior.
Has 73140 miles on the odometer. Clean Carfax! Sure enjoyed the test drive.
My first Mini!!!

Glenn

I've been lurking here for a while, before I finally joined, and got a sense of what to look for and maybe what to avoid. That information really helped.

One strong suggestion: If it doesn't have one, start a strong search for a wind deflector. Another little item you'll be glad to have is a 'LightInSight' from -
http://www.lightinsight.com/ Way Motor Works also has them in stock.

Welcome to the indescribable world of topless motoring! Truly motoring at its best.

Sumptin' else: If you get struck by the OCD (obsessive compulsive detailing) bug, Griot's Garage is right down the street from you in Tacoma. We stopped by there on a recent cross country road trip. Great products and a really neat shop.

I have heard of Griot's Garage. Did not know they were located in Tacoma! Sounds like a road trip in the near future. Thanks for the tip.

Another tip: When we were there, a little past noon, we asked about a place to eat. Everybody responded with "DOA!!!". Dirty Oscar's Annex.
It was, we learned, featured in an episode of Diners, Drive-ins & Dives and well worth the hunt.

Congrats on the great find. Two things that will make your MINI purr: 1. Use only toptier fuel. 2. If otherwise known, change all the fluids including the transmission. These two items can greatly increase the grin factor.

Tip: The top it prone to wear when it's folded. The main wear spots are just above the rear of the drivers and passengers windows and on the seam at the back corners where the back fabric and side fabric overlaps and is sewn together. If you use the top a lot, that'll be the first place it wears. What I do is I have some black felt that is folded over and makes a rectangle roughly 4" x 5". Just before the top goes full down, I slip these pieces of felt in on both sides to keep the two described areas from rubbing directly. Through the years it's made a huge difference in keeping the wear to a minimum.

Also, the very best cleaner and protectant is made by RaggTopp. Accept no others. The top fabric producer for the vast majority of convertibles made in the world recommends RaggTopp. Buy from Amazon for the best deal and clean and treat twice a year.

Enjoy!
