Backup Sensors?

I have found threads that talk about proximity sensors in the rear bumper, but can't determine if this is a stock item on all R57s or part of an options package. Where can I go to see if the 2012 MCS Vert has this standard?

*It has never beeped at me and I usually back into parking spots and my parking pad (which has a four-foot wall at the inner boundary).

Thanks,

Jeff

The sensors were standard in the 1st generation convertible (2005-2008), but became optional in the 2nd generation. Look at the black plastic trim at the bottom of your rear bumper. If you have the sensors, you'll see them there as 4 circular bumps. Otherwise you don't have them.

+1 it was an option. Check that lower bumper trim.

Will do. I've been without my baby for a week or so as it got repairs done - see my other post. But when I get the vehicle back I will immediately wander around the back to see if the sensors are there. From images here on the forum they look like they're really easy to spot.

Thanks!

Jeff

Nope. Don't have 'em. C'est la vie. Means I drive with the top down more than before so I have better visibility.

Thanks!

I do have them on a 10 r57. They come on sporadically. To my way of thinking they should come on every time I put it in reverse. I don’t know if there is a malfunction or is there a setting I need to adjust.

Yes, they come on every time you reverse. My guess is that there is water in the sensor or something is wrong. My R58 has them also and they do the same thing, turn on once in reverse. I navigation cars for gen 2 you get the screen display also.

Another great reason. People are shocked when they see the top up on mine.

Had Bramann in West Palm Beach run a diagnostic on them and it came back that everything was fine. They are operational. Happily, I make the trip to pick it up and zero, goose egg, nada, nothing. I’m more than a little pissed off and I respond with I thought your idea of fixing was it should at least make it out of the parking lot before the t breaks. I don’t think a single mechanic at The dealership even knows what a voltmeter looks like. Just follow the flow chart and charge me $219 an hour labor cost.

Follow up to the sporadic use of fog lights, sensors and backup lights. Brahman sent me home initially so Captain_bj in Melbourne Florida recommended I go to Pierre’s Place in Melbourne. A master at bmws and minis. He asked me if Brahman had ever considered looking at a footwell module that notoriously go bad. Make a long story short, the footwell module has an extended warranty that only Pierre told me about. I brought this to the attention of the dealership after standing for 2 hours in front of the manager’s office. 5 days later everything was working with no cost to me. Again, if not for Pierre, I was initially sent on my way with no answers and a sizable bill.
