I recently bought a second-hand 2015 Mini One with Visual Boost (6.5" center screen). I know I have 6 speakers - 1 under each front seat, 1 in each door and 1 in each rear side.

The sound just doesn't quite cut it - not after my 2006 Cooper anyway - so I'm looking into some upgrades.

For example one place offered me the following options:

1. First (cheapest) Option: Replace the door speakers with 2-way speakers, which they said wouldn't do much.
2. Next Option: Replace the door speakers and add an amp to bump up the 8" speakers under the seats.
3. Next Option: Component speakers up front, Alpine amp, and Alpine sub.

My question: What exactly do I have now so I can talk to these guys intelligently? For example, are the speakers under the seats really 8"?

If you do, that's the Harmon Kardon, otherwise you have the base system.

I have the HK, it's mostly adequate.

- hammerhands: Please see my original post. I wrote that I only have 6 speakers, no HK and no tweeters in the A pillars. Hence, I have the base system.

For example, when a place tells me that they can put 2-ways in the doors - how do I know that I don't already have 2-ways? Or they can put 8" woofers under the seats - what if I already have 8" under the seats?

You may be able to jam bigger speakers in there, see what other people have done.

If you look at the Realoem link, you can see that the mid-range speakers are the same size in both systems and the woofer units seem to be similar in size. The HK website says the mid-range speakers in the HK system are 100mm, and the woofers are 217mm.

Those must be full-range speakers in the base system, they are handling both high and mid.

You probably have a spot to mount the center speakers the HK has. Do you have the cutouts and covers for the tweeters in the rear? The tweeters are 26mm in the HK system.

Those A-pillars with the tweeter pods are not too expensive.

If you look around on the Realoem site you will see how they mount the amplifier.

Go to a MINI dealer and see if you like the HK system.
