R56 2011 MCS in need of tires
2011 MCS in need of tires
My '11 S is on 16" RF now, one of which has a bubble in the sidewall. Im looking to replace them.
Would I be getting any real gains from running the 205/50/16 over the stock size?
I have no mods done to the car apart from poly control arm bushings.

First, unless you do hardcore roadtrips every week... ditch the runflats. I have the 17 inch wheels that came stock with 205/45r17 continental constisportcontact3's and they rode so hard because of the super stiff sidewall since they were runflats. Just upgraded to 215/45zr17 Michelin Pilot Super Sports and they are amazing.
So... by going from what I assume is 195/50r16 (stock) to 205/50r16, you will be getting a slightly wider and slightly taller tire (since the 50 value is a percentage of 205, a 50 aspect ratio tire is slightly taller on 205 tires than 195 tires).
My suggestion is go on tire rack, plug in your new 205/50r16 tire size and see what options are available. If you see something you like, then go for it. You will have slightly more contact patch and a much smoother ride.

I won't recommend any specific tires or sizes as this is a matter of personal preference ,however I would HIGHLY PRAISE Tirerack for their excellent selection, service, pricing, and especially the free warranties that are well worth checking.

I like and run 205/50/16 on my MINI now, but since selection of good
summer tires has dwindled in this size, you may want to consider
205/55/16 - better selection and still fits fine.

Ditch the run flats...and buy a $25 cigarette lighter air pump from Walmart as your emergency backup.
Run flats cost too much and give such a bad ride.

Best max performance summer tire for 17" wheels, but they don't
make them for 16", which the OP has.

I was looking A/S tires. I went with BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2 All-Season 205 50 16, ordered them from Sears with install it was like 415.00. After the coupon the tires came out to 75bucks per.
