So, 6 months ago I had the tires replaced by the local Goodyear. It was an awful experience. They managed to mess several things up (the PSI on the tires were all different. One was 20, one was 50), the car started having problems starting the next day (one of the battery cables was suddenly loose) and now, after I changed the brake fluid, I had a difficult time getting one of the lug nuts back in the hole. After trying for 5 minutes and after taking a look in the hole, it sure looks like the threads are bad.
I went to the local mechanic (that I trust) who says the threads have been ruined and I need a new hub. He said Goodyear should pay for it.

I thus went to Goodyear who told me to come by Monday and they would clean the hole and charge me for it. That should make it work they said. But if I need a new hub, then they would charge me for that as well.

This doesn't seem right does it? The Goodyear guy said threads always go bad. But do they really?

The threads only go bad by cross threading the studs,rust or over tightening.

I would not take it back to them!

 

+ threads dont go bad, its the cross threading or using the wrong size bolt on the hub.

What year and model do you have ?

 

Thanks for your answer! They put in a stud and were able to put in a new bolt. I stared at them doing it, and I made sure they got it finger tight before pulling out the torque wrench.
Car rides great now! It's a 2009 hatchtop.
