Has anyone else received their "recall" letter? I got mine yesterday. It concerns the seat adjustment handles on the 2002 MINI. They have given us the option of changing them out (at no cost) or keeping them, if we choose. I'll be calling my dealer shortly.

No, not yet. What's the problem with them? Seems odd to me that I can't recall reading anything about any problems here.

Looking at them it is hard to understand whether to push down or pull up (down being the optimum direction).

I agree Verruckt. Use them once and you're good to go!

So now I'm curious, what does the "fixed" handle look like? HMMMMMM....

The new handles are the 2003 model.
I've never gotten in the back of my car and my kids have never had a problem pushing down on the lever. But we have had friends that started yanking up on it. I've heard that it can break when pulled in the wrong direction.

OH, OH, OH! You mean the seatback lever? I thought you meant the height adjustment lever!

Yeah. I know what to do with it just fine now, but every new passenger that has any need to use it always is perfectly confused. Hmmmm. I might take it in for that if it makes it any clearer.

Sorry, I haven't seen the '03. Can anyone describe it for me? (I think someone who's seen both would do the best at picking out the differences.)

Mini2Go - Sorry for the confusion. Yes, it's the seat back adjustment lever on the outside of the seat. If yours is an '02 model it should be shaped in a loop. The '03 (or maybe late '02) models have a simple lever. It doesn't give any indication that it should be pulled up. Hope that helps. I'm sure someone will post a picture of the difference.

I agree with Verruckt as well. Out of all the problems I heard from the MC and MCS, this is what they recall? Like come on. I'd REALLY like something done about that coolant color change issue. That's all I've dealt with, with my MCS, thus far that is. Recalling the seat handles?........oh man. That's some crazy chit right there.

If you're talking about the seat 'move foward so i can get to the back seat' lever, mine says 'Push' on it... it's a 2002, August build...
