I own a 2005 MINI cooper S with 115,000 easy miles.

Had the brakes done at the dealer at 53,000 miles. Now i'm at 115,000 and it's time for pads, rotors and fluid. I only put on 6,000 miles a year and drive very moderately.
Could anyone recommend parts and where to get them? Don't think I need anything other than OEM aftermarket parts with a good fluid.

For fluid, I recommend ATE Typ200: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...er=706232-GOLD Great fluid. I run it on the street and for the track. If you plan do to the fluid job yourself, and in the future, I'd recommend possibly looking into a Motive Power bleeder: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...pg5.htm#item19. They make the job so much easier. We have an article on our site that goes over the process with this if needed. Let me know if you have any questions.

 

EBC Redstuff pads should be a good fit for you. They are a good performance upgrade, but also keep the dust to a minimum. For rotors, I'd recommend ECS's GEOMET slotted type. I have those on my rear and the GEOMET coating has been holding up well, rain or shine. The slots are really just for show

ATE Typ-200 is kind of the standard for fluid. No reason to get anything else if you're not strictly autocrossing. It is tried and true.

 

Another thumbs up for redstuff they are really good rotors you can go with ecs or Zimmerman the coating on those are also good. I have combination of stoptech slotted rotors redstuff pads and fresh fluid from pentosin which you can find in local pepboys store. Too me I think slotted is overkill but looks good. Future I will go with wilwood kit since mini brakes suck when you want to stop from 100 mph

 

The slotting is a fashion statement in a street car. Let me be clear, slotted/drilled rotors will NOT help you stop faster, they merely help eliminate brake fade caused by pad outgassing. However, this only occurs after repeated hard braking; you will probably never reach the point of outgassing as a spirited driver on the street.

 

For your use I would install our EBC redstuff pads. Better than the stock with lower dust and good price point.

Then for rotors check out our WMW plain face rotors as they are great high carbon steel, perfect fit, and reliable. We use these in the shop for all our brake jobs we do.

Being disabled and on SSD limited income, I'm leaning on these parts from Tire Rack because of the cost savings. In upstate New York here it's about $300.00 to $400.00 just to get them installed so I may purchase these items below. If anyone has bought and used these brake parts, I would love to hear your feedback.

Akebono is a good replacement pad. Good on low dust and noise. Those are pads that people commonly purchase on a lot of different brand vehicles. Not familiar with those rotors. Also, we have those pads and the fluid for less $$. Typically, $179 orders get free shipping or if the weight limit is over that, great discounted ground shipping. Just an option.

akebono is good choice it is a well know name... i even had them on my audi.
centric rotors are good but make sure they have black coating on them for corrosion prevention. i have centric now on my mini but in slotted. and the price is still steep do more research and you will cut down another $40 on overall bill.

 

I use Akebono and Centric a good combo. Should be under $300 for all four corners to install by an Indy shop. Pretty simple job.

you can get perfectly acceptable parts for your driving style at ANY major part store .... MINI parts were once hard to find ..... that was back 10 years ago .....

AutoZone and the similars ALL have the pads & rotors on the shelf {around me, anyway} . . . everyone here is recommending an 'upgrade' part which you DO NOT NEED. .....

 

I have Hawk pads and Stoptech slotted rotors on all 4 corners.

Very very low dust (if any) and very quiet.

 

just installed hawks on my r53. good pads but the cold bite leaves a bit to be desired. if you're only driving moderately, though, the low-dust factor is definitely a plus.
