Mechanic for life, but new to the Mini World

Hello everyone,

Im excited to say i picked up a 2003 Mini Cooper S a few days ago and started digging right in. Im excited to be part of this new group of cars since ive owned so many others.

Right from the get go i noticed things that need to be replaced immediately -
1.Motor Mounts are shot - already been ordered
2.TPMS light was on - fixed
3.Noticed a puddle of oil under the car in the driveway after i let it run for a bit - Temp fix with Gasket Maker and waiting for the gasket to come in.

the car had 150000 miles but the engine seems to be running fine. My biggest concern at this point is that i can barely hear the supercharger. I opened the air box and took out the filter and could hear it a little bit, but with the box closed... nothing. It doesnt seem to have much power either, even though the engine seems to be running fine.

does anyone have any thoughts?

Update : So i went to AutoZone this morning and picked up some piping and a Spectre Air filter. Opened the Air Box and attached the filter. Huge different in sound and power. I can certainly hear the supercharger now and the throttle response seems to be better at this point. Now i need to invest in a real intake system.

Welcome.

Mechanic for life here also.

You will hear the SC under load, if you do an open airbox intake you will hear it much more.

" looks like a major leak from the oil filter housing "

Welcome to NAM! If you want some more noise, I'd look into getting an intake HERE. Also, when was the last time it got a full tune up? I'd check over the basics, filters, plugs, coil, etc. We have some great ignition kits HERE. Once done you could look into a pulley upgrade HERE as well to help with power and noise. Some good info HERE.

If you need anything else or have any other questions let me know.

Hello and THANK You.
I was doing a lot of research yesterday (while infuriating my girlfriend since she wasnt getting attention) and came across everything I need. Surprisingly enough I found it all on ECS Tuning for the cheapest.

I started first thing this morning and managed to get the oil housing off in about 20 minutes, so its going to be a very simple fix. I pulled out the gasket to find out it was very brittle and had a crack in part of it. Unfortunately i also found what looked to be a full leaf inside of it. Guess the person who owned it before me did there last oil filter out side. Its possible that the leaf might have clogged on of the ports causing it to over pressurize and crack the gasket. Oh Well, all will be fixed soon.

Thanks Again ECS Tuning!
