Ok, I'm a pretty mellow guy. I even have a Happy Budda on my dash. But last night I reached my limit.

Picture the scenario.....

Finished a day at work, left the building, beutiful Florida evening. Warm sun, crisp breeze. Walked over to the MINI, when suddenly I get yelled at from across the lot, Some guy climbing into his Huge Pickup (And they grow 'em pretty big in the south!).

"When Ya'll Gonna Get One Of These?"

Says: "Heh", Thinks: "Dumb***, maybe when I have to haul a hottub or somthing, I see your driving empty, that your 'Commuter is it'"

Redline it out of the carpark, oops.. touch the budda. "Calm Calm Calm"

Windows down tooling home enjouing the sweet sound of the exhaust note when a couple of dudes in a beat up Honda Accord pull up beside me and yell "Hey Is that A MNI?", This about 50mph with traffic coming up ahead, I scowl but nod. I pull up behind a van, the Honda pulls up beside me and the conversation goes like this:
"Is that the supercharged one?"
"Yes"
"How much are they"
"These start at $20K"
"Five gears?"
"Six"
"How Fast does it go"
"135mph"
"IS that ALL???"

Whell I just look at thier accord with this dumb look on my face thinking "Is that all?" and as my mind fills with expletives they drive off at thier lane is clear.

I nealy threw the budda at them, "Is that all?", You didn't even ask about handling you *******s, Agh!

Children don't know about cars. That's all they are, children. A finely tunes machine doesn't need to go 1000 MPH to be a great car. Next time some idiot tries that, ask them if they want to go to an autocross sometime. Remember, those are the type of people that think putting stickers on a car make it fast. True idiots.

Yup, I agree with shaskan. You can have a car that does 1000 mph... but if it doesn't handle, whats the point? There're always tradeoffs. I personally would much rather have handling that insane speed... less likely to kill myself, lol. Though I *am* thinking about an RSpeed intake and a Moss exhaust... but my K&N thats coming in today should do for now...

My favorite comment... "What is that thing?"

I was in Costco on Saturday and I finally found a Maisto MINI Cooper for 10 bucks.

Anyway, I get up to the cashier and she says "Have you seen these cars around?"

I said, "Yes" :smile:

She said, "Between me and you, I think they are ugly". :???:

My husband chimes in " You must like the PT Cruiser then?"

We laugh at her and take our stuff and leave. From now on that will be my party line, because I know the comments will come.

You see where this is going, don't you? This happens to me all the time. It's a shame, but what are you going to do? Some folks don't have the good sense God gave a lemon.

I don't mind the questions and comments, they are usually complimentary and certainly entertaining. It's the people that want to argue with you, like you don't know what your own car is. One guy insisted to me that the car is not a BMW project. Another lady insisted the the car was a "hybrid" and could run on electricity.
And there's always the folks that want to convince you that the "original" Mini is better. My favorite was a guy who insisted it was "against the law" for the "S" to not have a spare tire. To most of these people I just say "no hablo english"

I think its the winged emblem. Looks (to them) like a "mini" version of the one on the Sebring. Anyway, I've heard it more then once.

The way I look at it almost any comment is good 'cause they noticed.

But let me tell you why I'm glad I'm married, 'cause I'd never get lucky...

Women (attractive) walkes up to me at the pump.

"Isn't that BMW?"

"Sort of, but I really try to avoid the image...(smiling as I'm soooo clever)"

Feeling pretty studly until I see her get in her car and drive off...Yes, a BMW.

If it WAS illegal not to supply a spare, GM would have lobbied to have that changed since the corvette has the same runflat/no spare situation as the MCS.

I had a guy at a BMW Dealership tell me that BMW doesn't own MINI. I wanted to slap him and his arrogant attitude.

 

95% of the people who talk to me love the car or have honest questions. The other 5%… I didn't get my MCS to please them; it's to please me. :smile:

In high school, the football team put my Classic in the back of a pickup truck;
In college, it was turned side-ways between two vans in the parking lot (had to wait for one to leave ...)
about 10 yrs ago, I came out of my house on a bright sunday morning to find it turned over on the parking strip.

So if all the dolts do is ask stupid questions, I can live with that

 

For speed questions like that, I always say that the top speed is electronically regulated. It wants to go faster, but because of the computer chip, it can't.

 

C'mon guys, admit it. Stupid questions or not, deep down inside you secretly love the attention.

I love the "135mph? Is that all?" comment.

When I test drove the MCS without a chaperone, I returned it only to realize that I had never gotten the car past third gear. I felt a little bad that I had forgotten to use the 6 speed to its full capacity, but then I felt better when I realized that this car is so much fun to drive that it is difficult to get much past second gear without wanting to make the damn thing turn and turn hard!

I actually kind of like it that the average american gear-head has such a limited view of how cars perform that he thinks 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are the benchmark that define a fast car.

The last time I went to the race-track, there was a guy in a brand new Firebird. He made a lot of un-called-for comments about the manliness of my modified VW GTI prior to even seeing it perform on the racetrack.

The last straw was when he said "You better stay out of my way and let me pass your little GOLF when I'm coming up on your a$$ because you got no business being out here". For the first time in my life, I got the chance to see the true meaning of "buyer's remorse" on his face when he came off the track humiliated and heartbroken after being passed and left far behind by my little "insert derogitory name for gay/lesbian here" green GOLF (his words not mine).

I can't wait until my MCS gets here so I can share MINI stories rather than VW stories. . . . . .

Note to anyone who read the previous version of this post: I used a derogatory term for a homosexual in this post only to portray the ignorant intolerant nature of this fellow in the Firebird. I hope that anyone who might have taken it the wrong way will understand that I am a very tolerant person, and although I am not gay, my gentle, friendly nature often causes people to assume that I am and I received my fair share of gay-bashing BS in high school despite not actually being gay (not that there's anything wrong with that) [/B]

across Lake Champlain in the Cooper. I said to the woman
in the booth....
"They usually charge me half price...." giggling.
She didn't look at the car...looked at me and said...
"Oh...you mean the senior citizen discount!!"
