Newbie: Will 16x8.5 +20 fit?

I just bought my 2009 Mini S and purchased a set of wheels, 16x8.5 +20

I don't enjoy hitting road grooves and swerving with the stock 205/45/17 tires

My questions is, will 215/50/16 fit fine with no rubbing/issues. or 225/50/16?

I am on stock suspension and would love to have a more comfortable ride and wide tire for the raining Portland weather. Please let me know if any of you have pulled this off! Cheers

That wheel width and offset is pretty radical for a MINI. I doubt you'll be able to run tires that wide. Any tires you run will be stretched.

Do a search for "16x8"

I've done some research but can't seem to find anyone running a 50 tire. Usually people run a 40 or 45 which gives such a bumpy feel.

Were the 205/45-17 tires runflats? If so you can run 215/45-17 conventional tires on your stock wheels to get more cushioning.

Because of their width and offset those 16" wheels aren't really appropriate for addressing your problem. With 16x7 wheels that have a closer to stock offset you could run 205/55-16 tires for a more comfortable ride.

I believe the stock tires are still on the car. Probably will go with 215/45/16 since I have already purchased the set of wheels.

You will have very few tire choices in that size.

The factory offset for a Mini is 45 mm. You can generally get away with an OEM tire size with 42 to 40 mm offset. Those offsets would put the wheel and tire on the edge of the outside edge of the wheel/tire right in line with the car's wheel well edge. A wheel with a 20 mm offset would bring the tire edge out beyond the wheel well. You may end up with interference issues at that 20 mm offset.

Do you guys think 225/45/16 will fit without any issues? Considering stock wheels were 17x7 on my MCS.

Very few tire choices, that are fairly soft, high performance so will wear rapidly from what I could find at TireRack.

Might wanna ask in the { Roll call 8"+ wide wheels} thread right here in Tires, Wheels, & Brakes. Some of these guys are messing around with some wide wheels in smaller offsets.
