Help with wheel offset, spacers, etc.

Hey. I am looking at installing spacers on my car to get the wheels to sit flush with the wheel well, but I have a few questions on spacer thickness and wheel offset.

I saw alot of people running 15mm spacers in the rear and 12mm spacers in the front. From what I understand, the stock wheel has a +45mm offset. I am also looking at replacing the stock wheels with OZ Ultraleggeras, which have a +50mm offset, which I assume comes from the 17x7.5 size versus the stock 17x7. Would the same size spacers give the same effect with these thicker wheels?

Also, Waymotorworks spacers are about half the price of H&R spacers, but they look like they only come in 5,10,15mm sizes. I imagine if I used 15mm spacers in the front the wheels would stick out slightly, although it would be a square wheelbase.

If anyone could give me some info, that would be appreciated.

Sorry but you need to start with a blank page from the beginning
Assuming you have a jcw, or jcw calipers

Also assuming you like the look of 0z ultraleggara
Just buy with the " correct offset" adding spacers is just another degree of complexity you don't need

It could be you need to consider 7 & 8" as well as 7.5
The choice of rubber will also help you achieve your flush look

If it helps I'm running 7.5 x 17 with ET43 and 215 section rubber but with BBS wheels

Tire Rack doesn't show the Ultraleggeras as fitting a 2015/16 JCW. I like these wheels also, but will they clear the Brembo's?

All the stock wheels, if we're talking JCW, are et54. I run a 12mm front and 16mm rear, and the front is still slightly tucked, and the rear is still quite recessed, but also the rear fender trim is very thick.

Just as an exercise, if you're going from a 7" et54 (backspace of 5.6") to a 7.5" et50 (backspace of 5.7"), that means the outer face of the wheel will be 0.4" more flush than stock. That means it'll have the aesthetic equivalent of a 10mm spacer on the stock wheels. None of that may matter however if the aftermarket wheels don't clear the huge Brembo calipers, which require an enormous amount of spoke clearance, something that isn't quantified without an assured fitment.

If none of that makes sense, spend some time studying the Tech info on Tire Rack's website, as they explain it very well.

Ryan,

I must admit that the stock 18" cup spokes look really nice on my JCW, but if only the wheel was at least 7.5" wide!!! (like the MINI online configurator said they were!) I could probably bump the tire width up to 215 without issues and put more rubber on the road (which would look better imo). As it is, I'm ok sticking with stock until someone comes up with a proper aftermarket wheel designed for the JCW, if that ever happens!

I'd be ok with a small spacer to clear the struts, if needed, but that's probably all, as I quite like the obvious design of the wheel so close to the Brembo's (designed to barely clear). I believe the stock 17" track spoke wheel might be a tad closer to the caliper than the 18" cup-spoke (as my test drive MCS had track spokes...and they were really really close!)

Time will tell re optional setups I suppose,

John

Yup...that's TIGHT!....just as I remembered. Closer than the 18's...might be because it's a 17" dia and there is less room to work with.

I run 215 45's on those rims without issue. If you like those rims just buy bigger rubber it is tight but does not touch the shocks at the front and has tons of room in the rear.

I'm using Waymotorworks 15mm front and back to keep the square setup and they look perfect. And don't be deceived by the lower price of the Way spacers; they're very nicely done.

Thanks

We didn't skip on quality, just skipped the raping price of other brands.
