JCW wheel spacer project

After delivery & time to study the car, I noticed the wheels are inboard significantly to the body.
Its bad enough Mini outfits even their so-called "hot rod" with little dinky skinny *** wheels & tires.

So i ordered 15 mm rear spacers & 6 mm front spacers from OutMotoring to kind of toughen up the whimpy Mini wheel look.

Looks much better now. Next spring 18x8 Team Dynamics wheels with 235-35-18 rubber get mounted.

Looking forward to seeing that. Makes me wish I would have went wider than 215. Although Michelin PSS run wide.

I don't know what you guys experience but I notice a difference in fuel consumption going from performance 205 runflats to 215 Pilot Super Sports. It will certainly be an increase the moor sticky rubber you put on the tarmac.

Gas is super cheap these days. I dont really care about mileage, Its all about the Wider trac.

This tire size matches the stock 205/40/18 as to rolling diameter & I had thought of going with this size on my two-tone cup spoke wheels but everybody told me they would rub! So, please post details of the fitment.

The wider tire footprint will definitely look better on the F56, as the stock tires look small! The 17" wheels with 205/45/17 tires look so undersized I went with the 18's, but the tire width is still 205! LOL! Go figure! Only thing I could figure is Mini Engineers were more concerned about gas mileage than overall appearance!

I probably would not go with runflats though with a 35 aspect ratio.

Please post up pics & results...thanks,

John

Hi John,,
the Team Dynamics 18x8 wheels will be here on Tues. Offset is et45 i think.
Aron @ Outmotoring stated a 235 will fit & has been done before.
I will not have any pics soon. They will get mounted next spring. Will post then. For the winter the all season 205's will stay on.

Thanks Rich! Actually, I would probably need a wider wheel than the 18"x7" Cup Spokes...another thing that upset me when I ordered my JCW......the width of the larger diameter wheel was "still" only 7" wide!...grrrrr. And the MINI Configurator listed them as being 18" x 7.5" wheels! I'm still upset about that, since I had planned to keep running the stock 18" cup-spokes (they have really grown on me)...love them!

I just didn't want to put a ton of $ into wheels & tires, since this can easily become a never ending money pit!

But, I can definitely see me running the 235/35/18's on something in the future...and I am absolutely "certain" my JCW will look even better with proper-sized wheels & tires!

John

I run 12mm spacers up front to clear the bremboes on my JCW (2013) and nothing in the rear. I am very happy with my 235 (yes,235) Sumitomo sneakers. NO RUBBING. I mount these with studs rather than bolts.

I'm also running Outmotoring spacers on stock wheels. 12mm front and 16mm rear. Looks much better than the factory super-tuck.

So is GregoryK. It's still not flush with stock wheels/tires, but if you're going 235's then 6mm is probably a good call.

Think if I go with the RSe 12's I'll do 6mm front and 12mm rear. I will probably be able to start my own MINI wheel bolt shop after this is all done! Although Jerry at NM recons that you can use stock bolts on the 5 or 6mm spacers.

Will be very tight with stock shocks and springs, will need spacers for coliovers or aftermarket spring/shocks.

I am running 215/35/18 18x8 et45 with the Jcw coilovers and have zero room to go wider on the inside and flush in front on the outside.

R5x has a ton more room vs the f5x cars, ran 235/40/17 on my r56 jcw. On my
f55 with jcw coilovers if I want to run 225s I would need a 5mm spacers and the outside rim/tire would poke past the fender lip.

Spacer question (never used spacer in the past) adding 5MM or 15 MM spacers, Assume handling dynamics expected to change.... will a full alignment/camber adjustment be needed? Is there any downside to adding spacers to a 2015 F56 JCW....?

No suspension adjustments will be needed. Spacers only widen the wheel track and afford a minimal increase in handling by pushing wheels out further from the "roll center".

Spacers are installed primarily for looks and or brake caliper clearence.

I added spacers mainly for clearance on the JCW brakes. Second reason was for appearance's sake in that I personaly like a wide stance. As an added benefit I can feel is the car is cornering flatter (also lowered) than in the past.
