Should I replace my Timing Chain Assembly?

I have a 2010 MCS, and had the timing chain tensioner replaced in 2013 under warranty. I brought it to the shop last week and he asked if I ever had the assembly replaced. He said that the belt still has tension, but he has heard of people replacing the assembly as a precautionary measure. There is a weird scraping noise coming from the motor, but I don't think it is related to the timing chain. Should I wait for symptoms or change it just to be safe? Thanks!

I would pinpoint the scraping noise , it might not be related to the timing chain. Since yours was just replaced. Now a belt scrapping , that might be the serpentine belt of the tensioner on the main belt, not the chain. Post up a video.

A timing chain will not typically produce a scraping noise. When he said belt, he's probably talking about your belt train, not your timing chain assy. The most common belt train sound would be a squealing vs. a scraping.

If you have a big flat head screw driver you can use it to pin point the sound. Place the tip on certain spots on the engine and put your ear on the handle to listen.
