Why is my MCS R56 tail pipes black n sooty?

I noticed today [yes sadly very late in the game considering im fixing to rip out the exhaust & put in Alta 3" SS catbak ..] That me pipe were black inside! rubbed me finger in there and YAK! may has well have ran them in my woodstove pipe!
I havent smelled unburnt fuel , no lag or uneven acceleration ,....i did run some seafoam thru it a month or so ago but think the pipes are unchanged for the most part----- No error codes either ----- anybody got any ideas? is this common? I was really surprised to be honest ....ive own 68 cars since age 15 [54 now] & to be honest i think this is the 1st vehicle ive owned that ive ever had that problem [and not notice the odor of unburned fuel or something...normally my tailpipes be super clean / no residue...now i feel dirty...soiled....eeeek! profaned!!! :/~ ]

Mine are the same way. I attribute it to running in Sport Mode all the time. That injects a little extra fuel when I let off the gas to give me my exhaust pops and burbles. Mine is a 2011 MCS.

Ditto for mine, an 08 MCS. I also run in sport mode all the time, though I can't confirm that it's the reason the soot accumulates.

Short of replacing the exhaust, does anyone have a reliable way of cleaning it out? Soap, water and a stiff-bristled brush seems to get the topical stuff off but there's still plenty of baked- or caked-on gunk that's holding fast.

Barkeepers Friend and a damp paper towel. That stuff will polish a lump of coal...and NOT scratch it.

Carbon exiting...

I clean mine daily because I can't stand it.

Use a damp paper towel to wipe it off. Takes less than a minute if you keep up with it versus cleaning it in every car wash.

I was actually just thinking about starting a thread about how to clean this. So steel wool will fix it? I've got 60,000 miles worth of it so maybe a sandblaster will be more effective...kidding, I'm hilarious I know :l I understand its because the Mini's generally run rich, pretty much the same as the sport mode explanation.

I recommend never dull. Anytime I clean the cars exhaust tips, I use this stuff and it works wonderfully. It's like a giant cotton ball, but you tear it off in pieces and scrub the tailpipe and I typically wipe it off with a paper towel or rag.

I believe at Pepboys, Home Depot, Ace, Walmart, etc. I got mine specifically from Home Depot.

Well i appreciate how to get rid of it -----------but ------- WHYYYYyyy is it? when you think about it thats a hell of alota carbon blowing out and to my knowledge really shouldnt be ... i only run in 'sport' mode when im putting my foot in it [maybe 4-5 times a month] and shut it off right after making that run .

It's the poorly designed crankcase ventilation system throwing oil into the intake, oil passing the turbo, oil passing down guides, past rings......, its all of this crappy internal combustion byproduct crap. lol
Heres my pipes; after 2 days of running at Sonoma raceway
Custom CCV system. Motor has 107k miles. Burns like no oil.
I even route all CC gases back into intake.
