Doing oil change today my 2010 Cooper Hatch. After wiping out oil filter housing with a clean rag,I noticed something round and black lying in the bottom of the housing.Fished out a small damaged cylindrical O ring.Size is od=5/8",thickness=1/8".Where does this ring belong in housing?
Dealer parts person says ring is not sold separately by MINI,Need to purchase new filter housing for $350.

Don't know where it belongs, but most O rings are easy to find online for a few bucks a package. I've never been stumped in finding a replacement.
Sure...MINI does not sell it..it is a standard shop part....kinda like a bolt...
Most shops have a chest of o-rings...
Bet you can get o e for under $2.
Question is where it goes....
To PelicanParts vendor: No.It is not the housing cover gasket #3.It is a bit smaller than a Lifesaver candy.Black rubber. For all I know it was dropped in there by a dealer tech during an earlier oil change
Thanks for the reply.
Maybe the seal from the check valve seal\ at the very bottom of the filter. MINI does not have part # for this. But if you post up the size and measurement it can be cross ref. Then is someone else needs it in the future.
