New (to me) 2011 R56 JCW

Hey All,

Brand new member here. I just purchased a 2011 Chili Red R56 JCW. I have a few questions, First off, the best I can tell from lurking and reading on websites is that even though she is a 2011, she still has a N14 motor. If I am incorrect feel free to chime in. Also, I have confirmed that she is in fact a factory JCW, however the intake has no "Flap" and has a flat panel filter. If anyone has any advise please let me know. Thanks again, and looking forward to many more hours of lurking haha.

N14 motor in JCW form. They used it up to 2012 for the JCW models in R56- R59 chassis. Then in 2013 Model year they went to the N18 JCW motor.

The factory N14 JCW intake is the same airbox portion as the N14 Cooper S and the same panel filter unless someone did the JCW Tuning kit intake swap.

The flap you are talking about is a Gen 1 MINI thing 2002-2008 JCW tuning kit. You have a Gen 2 MINI.

Thanks for the info. So the only suggested intake mod for this vehicle is just a filter swap?

The flat filter swap to K&N or similar , the JCW Tuning Kit intake mod with tube filter liked above , or the ECS Tuning Carbon fiber full intake.

ECS CF intake Installed on GP2

Congrats on the purchase. I own a black/red roof 2011 JCW.

Don't forget to lurk/post in the JCW garage as well.

Have fun driving.

Welcome to NAM, Brett! Congratulations on your JCW! If you're looking into an intake upgrade, I'd suggest looking into the M7 Speed MAXX-FLO Cold Air Intake System here. There's some more info about it at the link, but it's a great quality product and decently priced. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! Post up some pictures of your JCW too when you can. Would love to see it.

When did the MCS transition from the N14 to N18 engine? My 2011 MCS VIN lookup indicates N18. Any visual identifying characteristics to identify one or the other?

There is some really good info here, linked directly to a post about the MCS and JCW engine change ups.

I can talk to you more about it then just sending a link to another article

The N14 was used on the MCS from 2007 to 2010. The N14 JCW was used from 2009 to 2012. The carried the N14 engine over into later in the cycle. The N18 MCS came in 2011 models as part of the LCI ( refresh of the R56 platform ). The N18 JCW Engine then came in 2013+.

So your 2011 MCS was the first year of the N18 S engine.

If you need anything else let me know.
