You might want to read some of the comments in this thread. People haven't been too sympathetic to this type of thing in the past.

I'm sure you'll enjoy your new MINI modified or not. Congrats.

I don't know if this is funny or sad.
I'll throw in my curmudgeonly bit - my college car was an eight year old Capri (loved that car) that I fixed up as money allowed. The idea of a college student purchasing a brand new MCS, then having the gall to ask for more is completely foreign to me. I might have sympathy if you got an '02MC - on second thought, no, I wouldn't.

How do you plan to have the balloon payment at the end?

Hey. there are others of us in College too. You dont see us asking for money. I dont want to hear about too busy or can't afford. If transportation is a necessity, get a corolla used for a few thousand.

Im staring on my 4th year of a double major and Im working 3 part time jobs (translation, tech support, campus rep.) to even think about affording this car during school. Stop being a moocher and earn your keep.

EDIT: here is an idea, people. Instead of sending this college "kid" money, take that spare change and donate it to cancer research, diabetes research, or any charity of your choice...

Aside from the rich, people work their asses off to pay for this car and whatever MODs they install. No free lunches in this world. If I have to suffer, you have to suffer.

You MUST be KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went through college on the GI Bill and working a minimum of 40 hours a week. I did not spend money on a new car and then stand on a corner with a tin cup asking for donations for college!

If you want to go to college, then spend your money on COLLEGE instead of on a new car and then have the gall to ask for handouts to fund college!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think the world OWES you something? Get up off your ***, get your priorities straight and pay for your education. Once that chapter of your life is behind you THEN you can worry about a new car.

Sorry for the rant. It really boils me that there are more and more people with no pride.

This is not the first time someone has stuck their tin cup in my face here. Maybe there should be a panhandling forum.

Aren't you glad you asked, nbame786?

Perhaps you should offer something in return for the donations...like coming to our homes and detailing our cars...or mowing our lawns.

What are you, nbame786, drunk? You got some nerve.

My college car was a junkball that burned more oil than gas. I didn't get any kind of new car until I was well out of school, and I didn't get one as nice as a MINI until... well, until the MINI, 22 years later.

But somewhere between when I graduated and today, a jaw-dropping attitude of entitlement took root. Whatever you can think of, you deserve, right? What happened to earning the things you get?

I would like to mod my MINI but those funds are currently going to health insurance for my family, home maintenance, and all the usual expenses associated with living in the real world... a locale you may be introduced to someday.

BTW, that MINI Select is a raw deal if you look at the long-term math... you're hurting yourself if you do it. But then again maybe Daddy'll help out.

I would be willing to give you $60 a month.
All I ask in return is that you cut my lawn once (yes only once) a week for the balance of the summer. Once the grass stops growing I am sure I can find some other things for you. I would be willing to add some kickers for things like cleaning a bathroom etc.
What do you think?

I think this is an honest request...I know lots of people with spare parts that they ddn't like and just have laying around.

However, if you can barely afford a car, modding it is not a good idea. Mods are not warrantied and can lead you down a long, painful road. Gotta be wiling to pay to play.

great deal, sucks that you're in ohio though, haha .... oh geez, and i don't mean to be a bastard to Bearx220, there shouldn't be any animosity between owners here, but you are exactly what i said, complaining about how you couldn't get it and worked and slaved til where you are. sorry daddy doesn't pay for my things. i pay for my things, i work, and i go to school because i studied pretty damn hard for it....all i ask is small favors in which i can return to people here on NAM ... unfortunately no one lives that close so i guess my deal - idea is a crackpot....oh well....any CT people? haha talk to you later fellow NAM members....and please....don't get so angry, it's just a thread about a car

This whole thread is funny!

The idea of "it never hurts to ask"... I'm not so sure about that.

Dogspeed.

mini select is basically like u pay payments on half the car, and after 4 years you pay off the rest of it, it lets you make lower monthly payments if you'd like, and the car is still yours to sell, helps if you are in my situatoin and can't afford 400 bucks a month, yes you hafta pay a lot more in the end, but, at least i'll be able to afford it then because i won't be stuck studying...or i can sell it in the meantime if i find myself not able to pay

I guess what strikes me most about this thread are the generational differences between so many of today's "I want it all now and don't want to wait" generation and the "I suffered, paid my dues, and had to work hard for everything I got" generation. Those of us in the latter, resent the ease, opportunity, and lack of sacrifice those in the former enjoy. Yes, I guess it doesn't hurt to ask for handouts. And if the rest of us cannot explain to you why it is shameful to us that you feel this way, I guess you'll never understand.

I have to believe, though I cannot prove it, that hard work, delayed gratification, and never asking for handouts, builds character and makes us stronger.

I am in between. I am a college student who supports myself while wanting instant gratifaction . Myself and my fiancee work our butts off to be able to have nice things while saving up for a house, a wedding, and a MINI all at the same time. I feel much better about myself knowing that we did this without all the help that many people our age get.
