170HP X
------ = --------
168HP $20,449

170X = 3435432

168HP MCS = $20,208

Think they will buy that. Its simple math.

I think the 170hp figure for the MCS has been misquoted time and time again. It appears to be that the 168hp rating for the '05 MCS IS the real number. I saw a couple of old posts in MINI2.com citing the 168hp figure from BMW.

Why people are so hung up on this?

Could be worse..like one company claiming 250 hp and had to revise their figures to 238 hp.

Sounds like the Mazda RX8! However, Mazda did offer to buy back cars from those owners that weren't happy about the hp reduction. Those who kept their cars got something to make amends for the misrepresentation.

So, if MINI misrepresented the hp ratings, will they make amends?

If you look on the Canadian MINI site - it states 170HP. Looks like us moron-Americans get shafted with the crappier ECU once again (think E36 //M3) Thankfully, the delta this time is basically unnoticable, versus the E36 //M3 of 320HP vs. 240HP for the USA, eek!

Hmmmm..did they actually state 170 hp anywhere in the U.S.? Nissan also was under fire from owners about the hp in the maximas and altimas. I don't know if that was ever settled. Oh, and Ford had to work on their 99 Cobras because of some horsepower differences.

So if the Mini is short they wouldn't be the first or the last to overstate the hp.
