how to prevent water from getting in to air filter

Hello everyone,

I just installed an oiled Spectra filter on my 2009 mini cooper s and am loving the sound. I also took the cover off the hood scoop to allow more air to get into the engine however I am worried water will get into the air filter, does anyone know of any suggestions I can do or try?

I have attached photos of the filter and the removed air cover on the hood scoop.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

A snorkel would be cool on a Mini.

I went through 7 hood scoops on Blue my old Clubbie S. Now I am deforming Mini logo's on my Countryman.

So if it rains is there a chance the engine could be damaged from sucking up water?

I see this on ebay but not sure if it works

No. You would have drive under water. A little bit of water spray will not hurt anything. Actually, people purposely spray water into their engines to help with performance.

The scoops on the new models (mine's an 2013) are mostly open. AEM and M7 make intakes where the scoop goes directly to the filter box and nobody has reported any issues.

People running a wide open NACA style duct need to be concerned during heavy rain.
