BMW Vintage gathering Sept 18 Spartanburg SC

Though not a MINI event I thought it might be fun to go see this. The BMW Vintage Car Club is running a 2500 mile marathon down the east coast. This will end up with the participating vehicles on display at the Zentrum in Spartanburg SC on Sat Sept. 18th. So far, they have over 60 cars and motorcycles signed up dating back to 1928 (last year they had over 100 in the final count).

I thought perhaps, if the interest was there, any MINI owners attending could meet in Spartanburg and caravan to the Zentrum. After spending some time perusing the fine cars, we could go somewhere for an early dinner/late lunch. As this is still about a month off, there's time to fine tune the plan. I've mentioned this to a couple people who are interested. If you want to join us, all are welcome. Please post any comments, suggestions, or observations as to a meeting place and time and possible restaurants.

Hey that might be cool

Hey it will be College Football season for me at Myrtle Beach but that sounds pretty cool.Spartanburg is just around corner where my college team will be playing an away football game at Newberry that weekend later in the evening. What away to enjoy two great things Mini Motoring and College football. Also would give me a feeler to know the area for Eurofest.Im going to try to see if the wife can make it.Hey also ill be glad to send you pics of our car if you send me an email address to zip file them too.Love your sticker on the back of your MCS. Count me in. I think this’ll be a neat event. BMW built some really beautiful cars back before the 2002 introduced the marque to this country. There are usually a few on display at the Zentrum and I’m eager to see more. I’ll stay for lunch/dinner, too.

Agreed, Lee. Looking at last years pics in the Roundel, there'll be some great examples of what the phrase "ultimate driving machine" is all about.

Derek, I sent you a pm.

I've pulled a picture out of Roundel magazine that shows some of the cars that attended last year. Unfortunately scanning magazine pictures never does well for me, but you'll get the idea.

Some pretty fancy rides there, huh?

Thought I'd give this a bump as it's only about 2 1/2 weeks away.

Sorry for being so sporatic on the info on this. Problems with the store move have kept me away from my computer pretty much for the past week. As I really haven't gotten a lot of responses to this event, why don't we just plan on meeting in the first parking lot of the Zentrum at noon on the 18th, weather permitting.

After perusing the cars we can decide which direction we want to head for lunch.

I'm planning on driving down if it doesn't rain.

I'm kind of worried about that. The weather people are starting to talk that Ivan will be in the area by Sat or Sun. This would definitely throw a kink in the works. Guess we'll have to wait and see what develops.

Glad you can join us!

Ivan's all ready here. Rumblings of thunder, mass quantities of rain, and tornado warnings... hopefully, by the looks of the weather radar, he'll be gone by Saturday.. I'll try and shoot over to meet everyone..

Looks like I should be able to make it down for this. Hope they didn't have too many cars drop out from the weather. If I'm not in the first parking lot at noon count me out.

Thanks to the remenants of Ivan, I couldn't make it. A tree fell on my parents house (about 35 miles west of here) and I got to play carpenter yesterday, effecting repairs to their roof. Fortunately, the damage wasn't major..

Count yourself kind of lucky, I guess. Debi and I did make, but there were no cars to be seen. What a fiasco! Rereading the write-up and info in the Roundel, still gives me the impression the cars were supposed to be there on Saturday, too. This was, however, not the case it seems. We did see one ragged out Isetta 300 on a trailer. Small consolation for a 4 hour drive.

What a bummer!! I was hearing stories of these guys driving open air cars down from Pennsylvania in the rain... I guess they had the show on Sunday instead.. Still, I regret not at least coming out to meet y'all..

It was nice seeing you. Too bad there wasn't a car show--oh well S@#* Happens I am just sorry that your drive was soooo long.
Afterwards, I went to the Pottery Barn outlet and did some shopping. I didn't hear any complaints about my shopping after I told Keith the story

Until, I guess Eurofest Cheers. I know Eurofest has been going on now for years on schedule.

The BMWVCCA web site's event update page says that most of the cars went to the performance center Saturday, where each team got a 645i to drive around the area for the day. Did you see a lot of those cars in the area?

I live closer to the Zentrum than either of you, but wasn't able to make it because of the storm damage. I guess that's just as well.

I did see some new white Bimmers scooting around the performance center's test pad but didn't pay much attention to what was parked in the lot in front of the building.....at least nothing that caught my eye.

On a sidenote, Lee...it looks like Mother Nature's not quite done with you guys yet. On the present track, you'll get more of this storm than we will here in the east. Good luck!
