R56 the best air filter for 2 things
Just a panel filter isn't going to make the intake sound loud. It may slightly increase it, but not much.
I do recommend the dry panel filter as that way there is no oil going through the sensors on your engine.

You can have lots of noise and hot air or have performance from real CAI like stock set up.
Lots of noise goes with hot air and performance goes with Air filters like the stock setup? Is that what you mean?

No I mean don't apply too much oil to air filter. The only time cotton / oil filters coat MAF sensors is when someone cleans and then re applies too much oil and it can't be absorbed by cotton comes loose and coats sensors . From the factory you won't have that issue.
I really like my PiperCross dry foam air filter. Seems to provide more "blow-off" (recirc) noise on my 2011 MCS. And, it does not hang so low in the airbox as a pleated filter, or my previous K&N panel filter, freeing up more "space" for the cold air coming in from the stock air intake next to the left headlight. I think I feel more "pull" VS the K&N in the butt-dyno, but unproven with factual numbers.
In the past you used to add a little oil to the filter itself because it would catch more debris would get trapped by the oil, this isn't so great because of our MAP and MAF sensors. A dry type filter is best these days, oiling your filter is the older way, I remember in the mid 90's K&N came out with the first oiled re-usable air filter.
