08 Mini Cooper Temp Gauge and Cranking Issues

I have a 2008 Mini Cooper with 55k miles in which the temp alert is intermittently coming on. When it comes on, the A/C goes warm. The car is not steaming and is not using coolant. When the temp alert disappears, the A/C goes cold.

Also, intermittently the car will not crank and the key fob will not turn loose when trying to crank the car. After another attempt, it will crank with no issues.

I tried to reset the ECU by unplugging it for about 30 minutes and plugging it back in. It has cranked up just fine, but the temp alert came on when cranking.

Am I dealing with 2 separate issues with a temp sensor and ECU? Or are both issues tied to the ECU?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
