Drivetrain Backing on to Ramps
Backing on to Ramps
Anybody ever back their Mini on to ramps? If so, was there a problem with clearance for the front air dam? I have the low profile type ramps I've used for years from probably Griots Garage or something.
Want to change exhaust this weekend and wondering if backing it up on ramp is the safest way, if doable. Jack points are a little odd, to include jack stands too, but I'll go that route if needed.

I didn't encounter any problems with front clearance backing onto my rhino ramps (lowered on H&R's).
You will still need to use jack stands on the front jack points. Otherwise, there just isn't enough room to crawl up to the exhaust connection at the Cat.

ElonCooper,
backing on is no different than driving on forward. If your car does not hit the ramps going up then when you turn it around it should not drag.
If you want to call me at 1.877.258.9010 I can tell you how to check it out.

ElonCoop,
I've not encountered ground clearance problems with my front airdam, but I've encountered traction problems when attempting to back onto ramps, the ramps slide out, and as the rear wheels have no bite, I have a devil of a time backing up ramps. If you are going to be putting your Scorpion cat-back on, I highly recommend jack stands for the rear of the car. I spent about 2 -1/2 hrs. last night putting my Scorpion on, it's well worth the effort. All was exactly how you think it will go on, plywood instructions nonwithstanding. Secret to making it work, silicone spray. Just lube up those mounting rubbers, stick in a small flat screw driver and pry away.
p.s. having the suspension under no load will ease access underneath too.

I thought it might get a little narrow near the cat. I'll have to see if there a good optional jack point in the front to be able to put jack stands at normal jack point. Will it be obvious, or has the group discussed a suitable jack point? Thanks.
MGCMAN,
That was my original plan, ramps in front, and jack stands in back. I'll change back to that plan. Did you put the jack stands under the standard jack points? If so, where was your jacking point to do so? Looks like I could use a block of wood, near the black OEM point to do so.
Not much suspension area to lift by.

ElonCooper,
That's just what I did, placed a block of wood over the lift on my floor jack, positioned it near the jacking point, lifted, placed the jackstand under the point, carefully lowered onto the jackstand, and then repeated on the other side.
Have fun tonight, It'll be worth the effort.

Why not put the jack at the front, lift both the right tires, slide the ramp under the rear wheel, lower it a little and repeate on the other side? Never tried it but it should be possible if you have enough jacks and ramps
