Most expensive states to insure

NAIC's list shows the northeastern Bos/NY/Wash DC corridor to be the most expensive to insure one's car. I thought California was high, but not so, according to the study. Any lucky MINI owners from Iowa (lowest cost)

You'd have to look at the age group and sex of the driver/owner to get the full story.

Urban areas are probably bad on insurance. High crime is also a bad thing.

Hawaii is pretty good.

What really matters is your zip code. Insurance rates can vary wildly even in the same metropolitan area depending on your zip code.

AZ has a lot of uninsured and unlicensed motorists due to the high number of illegal aliens. Plus, a lot of Arizonians don't really know how to drive or have common courtesy on the roads.

I live 40 miles north of Boston on the coast ,and for a variety of reasons I decided that it would be a good idea to change my legal address to my mother's house in Cambridge(not the least of which was a way to get a Cambridge resident parking sticker-GOLD)The difference in my insurance went from 1300/year to 2000!Needless to say, that didn't last long (just long enough to get my sticker!!!!!!!)

No kidding...I have never been some place with so many incomitent drivers....I wish the U.S. would make some kinda road course for driving that accully requires one to learn how to handle a car properly....

Michigan, thanks to no-fault, is in the top 10 of states for insurance costs (saw an article in the New York times a few months back). Thanks to "no-fault" insurance Of course the idioc masses voted for it when the insurance industry said "oh yeah, it will save you money" riiiiiigggghtttt...

Never been to Thailand so I can't compare it to London or Mexico City - neither one is a picnic. Crazy English on the wrong side of the road and the round-a-bouts. Mexico City is just plain insane.

Lahore, Pakistan was an eyeopening experience. Traffice consisits of every mode of transportation that has existed since the wheel was invented.

Nope. Harris County, Houston, TX. I believe it is the most expensive.

From my experience, the worst US drivers are from Boston: they obey no laws except the laws of physics (and those only when required!).

Overseas is different: Mexico City, Mexico is BAD, Ditto Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Guyaquil, Ecuador. Surprisingly, I found Rome to be only congested and full of aggressive but good drivers. Never been to Asia though I've heard that Pakistan and India may give Thailand a run for its money.

Indeed, I used to live in NJ, then I moved to PA. Unfortunately, my rates didn't really change. I'm in a suburban area of Philadelphia now.

i grew up in Parsippany, NJ (about 40 min. East of NYC, 1.5 hrs. North of Philly) and when i got my first car, which was a 1994 Nissan Sentra SE-R, i got it in 1996 and i paid about $4,000 a year for a 2 year old car!!!!! if that's any indication of how bad insurance is there. now i'm in White Plains, NY (30 min. North of NYC) and i pay less than half of that still on my MCS. i'm now 26, and now have a clean license, did have a pretty bad 4 year period with tickets and accidents though from about 19 to 23, but all good now.

I'm not sure that study is real accurate, South Florida is very high and when I moved to the DC suburbs of VA my rates went down A LOT! I ended up paying for two cars in VA what I was paying for one in FL.
