2004 MCS Front and Rear Washer Operation Question

Can this be right?

When I pull the wiper lever on my 2004 MCS to wash the windshield I hear the washer pump go on but nothing comes out of the nozzles on the hood.

When I pull the wiper lever to wash the windshield with the headlights on, the headlight washers work but still nothing out of the nozzles on the hood.

When I twist the control on the end of the lever to wash the rear window, it activates the rear window wiper but I get a stream out of the nozzles on the hood and nothing out of the rear window nozzle.

What to do?

Do you see any puddles of windshield wiper fluid behind the front wheels? If so, a line may be disconnected. That or you have a blockage in the lines, could be debris or ice. If you live somewhere where the temp drops below freezing and you have "summer" windshield washer fluid, it may be low on alcohol/meth content and will freeze, clogging the lines.

Since nothing works, including the headlight washers, I'd be tempted to say that it's due to freezing, as the windshield and boot are using the same tank, while the headlight washer has its own reservoir and pump.

Thanks for the reply. The headlight washers work as they are supposed to but nothing comes out of the windshield washers when I pull on the lever. However, when I twist the control to wash the rear window, four strong streams flow onto the windshield. I don't remember my first Mini MCS doing that.

Could it be wired wrong? I believe that there is only one pump for both front and back. If that is the case, how does it direct flow to the right place. Pump have two outlets and reverses direction?

I had the same problem you do....light washers worked fine, but nothing came out of the sprayers mounted on the hood that are supposed to spray the windshield. I could hear the pump running, but nothing was coming out.

I pulled the insulation off under the hood in a few spots so I could follow the lines that ran to the sprayers. I found one like that had came unhooked. I plugged it back in to the plastic T-fitting...and everything was working properly again

Thanks. I will give that a look. When you had your problem did yours wash the front windshield when you activated the rear window wash?

I looked at a picture of the pump and I assume the two outlets are for front and rear. How does it regulate the flow between the front and rear outlets? Does the pump run in two directions?

I think there are two separate pumps...but I'm not 100% for sure.

I found a wiring diagram for the washers and if I am reading it right it looks like the pump spins in one direction for the windshield outlet and the opposite direction for the rear window outlet.
