Just brought home a 2012 JCW Hardtop

Replaced my beloved 02 S that got totalled a few weeks ago. New car is awesome, two questions.

1. Desperately needs a short shifter. Which to get? Had a b&m in the old one and loved it.

2. I dont think the new car has the stock jcw exhaust, it looks aftermarket. Accordingly, I dont know if there is other aftermarket stuff on there. Engine bay looks stock. The turbo spooling is definitely audible under boost, along with a very light winddown/chirp type sound when I get off the throttle. Is that normal, or could there be some aftermarket bypass stuff in there?

Any dos/donts? Thanks!

Oz

Congrats! You will love it! I went with NM SSK since they also sell the larger cover.

From your pics it looks to be the JCW exhaust. Factory JCW vehicles do not have any special markings on the exhaust. Now, if it was JCW tuning kit with exhaust, then they would say John Cooper Works on the tips. But that's not what you have. I also did the NM SSK and Box Cover, but have always wondered about a full fledged short shifter like CravenSpeeds.

As for your turbo noise, take a look just under the air intake port of your turbo. There you will find the Diverter Valve mounted to the turbo housing. If it looks more or less like a little black cube then its most likely a stock DV. However, WayMotorWorks sells an uprated DV that looks the same. If there is a metal DV chances are its Forge. There is also the DV+ from GFB that mounts in between the stock DV and Turbo.

I did the Helix SSK + NM cover. The Helix SSK is a little more aggressive than the NM.

I am happy to hear that this combo works well; I have both pieces sitting in boxes waiting for the day I do my exhaust as well.

I made my own Box for the crave speed. Doesn't really need it but did anyway.
I have factory JCW and my exhaust does have JCW on tips or something like it will look once car is back from shop

I've had to two JCW's. 2006 super charged and 2009 turbo...loved them...fun as hell to drive...very expensive to maintain. Get the extended warranty if you can. Enjoy!!!

Could not agree more. I purchased a 3rd party warranty which is pretty decent. Took the JCW to mini for AMP replacement and overall health inspection (second health inspection in a month)

Ended up having the thermostat replaced and there was some leakage behind the oil filter...Let's just say the warranty has already paid off and then some

The previous owner ( was a member here) had the JCW tips installed and I never asked him how, a Mini Mystery

My 13 fJCW with n18 (13' is the only year jcw came with n18) has no logo on tips. Logo is from tuning kit, not factory.

Sent from cellular device.

I thought so! So, someone must have installed the tips from the tuning kit or something.

Good taste in your car! It looks enough like our 2012 JCW to be it's twin. Cobalt blue, black top, white full racing strips. Non-branded exhaust on ours, 17" black JCW wheels. Burnt off the runflats at Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw. Replaced those with non runflat Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's and carry an 12V VIAIR compressor and Dynaplug kit just in case when traveling. It makes for a much better ride, quieter, softer ride, and better handling. Enjoy your car and take her twisting!

Congrats. Beautiful car. Recently got my '12 as well. Absolutely love it, no doubt you will too. No markings on my exhaust.

Thanks for the responses!

Its a lot of fun. Quantum leap forward in every way over my old Cooper.

Its a late 2012, so it is still under the maintenance plan and the factory warranty. I plan to run it in to the local dealer in a few days and have them do an oil change and just scope the car out in general.
