Your help and/or advice is much appreciated ...

Hello. As some of you may know, I recently returned my newly acquired SprintBooster. The unit was the wrong part, and as a result had to sent it back. I lost much time and effort.

That said, I'm trying to decide if ordering the K&N filter (seen here) may yield the same results as the SprintBooster, since the car will "breath better" according to K&N. The end desired result is to simply eliminate the bogging-down effect which several folks have also experienced due to the delay in throttle response.

Frankly, I don't really care much about added power and/or sound. If such is achieved, great .. I'm just trying to remedy the bogging-down.

And so, I have two simple questions

1- Will this filter help my cause, and ..

2- Will adding this filter setup cause MINI to frown on my maintenance and warranty.

Any information, hyperlinks, etc. from anyone with knowledge in this regard will be much appreciated.

Thanks all..

No and no. The filter certainly won't do what the sprint booster will do but it will put a smile on your face.

No and No once again.

1. Don't expect an air filter to do that much for power except if it is dirty and you replace it with a clean filter. After market filters aren't worth the extra cost in most cases and in a base cooper, more so. Just use clean filters as needed.

2. Dealerships are not bothered by aftermarket air filters as long as they are installed correctly.

Some owners will say that the sound they hear after installing an aftermarket air filter is different than the OEM air filter and this can be true but it is not likely to produce much of a change in HP or improvement in throttle response.
Just a reality check.

The base MC's were't designed for performance even though they are fun to drive, you would be hard pressed to add any meaningful power gain. Your Cooper was design for maximum MPG (128hp), with that said you're just wasting money.

Please allow me to "reiterate" what I said in my original post (last paragraph)

"Frankly, I don't really care much about added power and/or sound. If such is achieved, great .. I'm just trying to remedy the bogging-down."

So again, I don't care about "power" and/or "sound" - I ONLY want to eliminate that PITA bogging down phenomenon. I'd even give up power to eliminate it because I'm well aware Zippy is NOT an "S" - "JCW" - "Ferrari" or the like.

Regards,
David

I'm well aware you don't care about power and your question has already been answered, your issue is with throttle sensitivity. I was just making a point that no amount of upgraded parts would give you the sensitivity that you're looking for, I should have been a little more clear. Sorry for that.

Noted. However, aside from the check engine and cruise control light issues, the SprintBooster actually "worked" and therefore "provided the sensitivity I was looking for".

Therefore, I'm hopeful the correct part will be provided. If not, I'll invest in making Zippy look prettier, even if she bogs every once-in-a-while and is considered slow.

Regardless; I still love her, she just annoys me every now and then.

Hmmmm, kinda reminds me of a similar real life scenario. (Runs and hides from wife!)
