New Cabrio! $1500 over MSRP!!!

Has anyone looked into the price of the new Cabrio? I know the base MC cabrio is about $20,900. I spoke with MINI of St. Louis about putting my name on the list. They are charging $1500 over MSRP & want $600 deposit to be put on the list. I'm not sure if I want one that bad I saw a BRG Cabrio at the West Meets East & fell in love with it. Anyone know what dealers in other cities are going to ask?

I hope we can get the Cabrio ordered at MSRP

Last time I talked to my dealership they told me the prices were not firm.

Now that we have prices I wonder if it will be common to get a cabrio ordered at MSRP.
Maybe the wait will be longer.

Adding an extra fee on top of that seems like a "california" thing to do.

MINI of Hawaii should be charging MSRP on the Cabriolet. That is their pricing structure for all MINIs. However, if you buy one off the floor, they may try to add in the appearance protection package and another one that I can't remember.

One of my friends bought an M car at $5k over MSRP and feels that if you are forced to pay for additional markup, the service from that dealer better be worth it! If they are not up the gold standard, let it reflect in their CSI ratings.

Problem is, I can't drive the Cabrio home from Hawaii Although it would be a great trip to return to Hawaii

I guess you haven't strolled over to the BMW side of Shelly Motors (Parent Co of BMW of Honolulu, BMW Maui and MINI Hawaii)! Adjusted Market value tags are the norm. I've seen adjustments range from $5000 to $25,000. There were even the infamous Z8s that had adjustments in the $125,000+ range!

Maybe you could get a courtesy delivery in the mainland. I've done that with Mercedes purchases and the dealers were happy to do it.

Interesting suggestion...

Did you have to pay an extra fee to the delivering dealer? How were you treated by the delivering dealer?

I had to pay a courtesy delivery fee of maybe $200. Sure beats $1000 shipping from Hawaii!

Moritz Mini in Arlington, Texas (Dallas area) has a policy that prohibits them from selling ANY car above MSRP. It seems to me that it would be worth an 8 hour drive for $1,500. Your local dealer must provide service on any car, warranty or otherwise regardless of where it was sold.

The best and most straight dealing car salesman I've ever met sold me my MC off the showroom floor there at MSRP and that was with a hand painted pinstripe and MINI logo.

His name is Jarred Cronenworth and you can reach him at 817 436 5727. I don't get anything from him and I don't have anything to do with this dealership except that I'm a customer. He is just an impressive guy and will shoot straight with you.

Good luck,

What am I missing here....why would anyone be surprised that MINI dealers are selling desirable cars above MSRP? Isn't this what the vast majority of MINI buyers have encountered since about April 2002 (up until at least this past year)? Isn't this why there's been such activity as purchasing cars at MSRP in Hawaii and then having them shipped back to the mainland (I believe someone did one of these reverse shipments all the way back to like Chicago or something...).

It's just par for the course. If you want a cabrio now, expect to pay and/or wait on a list. Give it about 3 years, and you can probably drive one away for MSRP or below.

Classic Mini or Mini of the Hamptons can probably set you up with a good deal... The only downside is you will have get is shipped back... OR..... You could drive it back and make it a road-trip Cleveland to St. Louis is probably a 12hr. drive? NYC, tho, it probably 2 days (or more?)

Not at all!!! MSRP is just that = Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. A dealer can "legally" charge whatever the heck it wants (unfortunately).

Any MSRP dealers in KC,Chic,Memphis?

I too am trapped in St Louis "over MSRP dealer country" and that's why I went to Memphis to pick up my 03 MCS. I plan to call the dealer in Memphis to make sure he hasn't caught the greed bug Meanwhile, I'd be happy to drive/fly to Kansas City, Chicago or Indianapolis to pick up a 05 MCS Cabrio.
Any ideas:

Car and Driver

Just as an FYI, there is a nice little peice on the cabrio in the August Car and Driver.. Looks pretty sweet, but with the $4K over the MC, and as we all know, MSRP is about as close to a deal as we can get, the more buzz generated the more $$ it will cost us.. BTW C&D said the car was still much fun, but at about 200Lbs or so (if I remember correctly) seemed slightly anemic and are hold out for the S.. any way..

Cheers,

I highly recommend dealing with Lauderdale MINI, best car purchase experience in the state. MSRP (Since day 1) and no mandatory packages.

Pleasant staff (I recommend contacting Crystal neagle, our MA) and great service.

Our 2 MINIs were purchased from Lauderdale MINI.

I'll be getting my Mini convertible from the dealer in Salt Lake City for MSRP. The bummer part: it took a $2,000 deposit to get on the waiting list! To me that's a lot of $$$ to be sitting in their hands until spring (or whenever my name comes up; I'm around #34 on the list...)

Lois,

I am currently working with MINI of STL to try to get an exclusion from over MSRP pricing for STLMINI members. I'll let you know if I make any progress. If I got a Cabrio (I'm not the convertable type) I would get the Orange with black top and mirrors. It would be "The Great Pumpkin"!

I will be ordering a 2005 MCS with the limited slip diff, Dark Silver with checkerboards stripes, roof, and mirrors. I have already spoken to Devon about it at MINI of STL.

Aaron

Try Baron MINI in Kansas City. When I bought my MCS, they claimed that
they weren't like "the other guys" and sold their cars with no markup. Of course, they want you to buy $600 worth of accessories. But at least you get something for the money.
