cam requirements for forced induction motors are different than for naturally aspirated. In particular, more overlap and duration are not generally advantageous. More lift is useful.

that being said, I would not take mfg's cam specs seriously anyway, since conditions of measurement have everything to do with the readings. The only way to know the real specs is to buy both cams and send them out to an expert for measurement.

Schrick has a good reputation; that's as good a spec as anything else short of running them in your motor and seeing what you get.

minicoop78,

Some vendors that have looked at schrick cams and polished and ported heads in combination are Dan at Piloracing.com and Randy at Webbmotorsports.com. The results are better when both head and cam are upgraded in a coordinated fashion. Contact them for more details.

Helix13 has the cams as well- talk to Eric
http://helix13.com/html/products/intake.htm
HMS 2017 Schrick Cam MCS $469.00
HMS 2018 Schrick Cam MC $449.00
Intake 252 exhaust 260
http://www.webbmotorsports.com/performance.php
Price: $550 Cooper S and $499 Cooper
Randy can price match- just ask.
Helix usually is quite competitive on part prices.

Prices vary to reflect market supply/demand and profits. I've only seen Schrick cams for the MINI. upgrading only the cam would have limited benefit with more gains when upgraded along with ported and polished heads.

another thing:

this engine is basically well designed except for the poor flowing head. Which is why one doesn't see large improvements from intakes, throttle bodies, header, free flowing exhausts, cams. I personally found zero improvement from adding the Promini street cam, and 63mm throttle body and minimal improvement from the exhaust. Once I had the head done, things started to click; more flow throughout, with honed intercooler runners, header, anti-reversion steps and the esrlier mods meant I needed more fuel at the top. Added 440cc injectors and a fuel mangagment piggyback (a nice flat 12.5:1 A/F up to WOT and 7000rpm) and got 245hp (crank corrected). Then you get to the next step which is to keep that intake charge cool...

you have to fix the weakest link before you get the benefit of the cam, et al.

When you got to this power did you have clutch issues and if so how did you resolve them?

spider:
I never had a clutch slip problem due to extra power. I did eventually upgrade the clutch as it is only a matter of time...I recommend the stage 2 Spec clutch and pressure plate. Hubie has been blasing around in his 250whp twincharged rig on a stock clutch, but he can make it slip.

if you can cough up the dough, put in a Quaife while you do the clutch change; or visa-versa, if you are doing the Quaife, do the clutch.

Schrick only has two cams for the MINI:
one for the Cooper
one for the Cooper S
yes, once upon a time there were two for the MCS, but one was dropped 'cuz the other made more power across the board.

There are 2 ways increase lift one is to increase lobe height the other is to reduce the base circle diameter. Unfortunatly their is only limited scope (without big changes) both ways.Lobe height can only be increased around 0.5mm (0.020")due to risk of it wacking the s'plug tubes. Decreasing the base circle diameter again works to a point but the hydraulic lifters will be further extended.
