I have a 2010 R56 and I think I went too big on my rear sway bar. I autocross the car and when I go hard into a corner the car tri-pods. It is a hotchkins competition bar. If I stiffen up the front end with a smaller sway bar will will that make more problems or would that help keep all wheels planted.

 

The tri-pod happens as a combination of stiff chassis and suspension setup. You need to balance what feels right and what is faster. Just because your car lifts the inside wheel does not meet there is anything wrong.

Do you like the feel of the car with the new rear bar, or is it too much rotation and oversteer for you? Have you adjusted the bar with the different end link holes?

Smaller front bar is going the wrong way. If anything, you would want to stiffen the front bar to match the rear.

I know I am resurrecting an old thread, but does anyone know the stock sway bar size with non-sport suspension?

I bought a sway bar and stock bushings from a member with a Cooper S for dirt cheap, and when I measured it was 18mm. I am wondering if it would make a noticeable improvement and would be worth the project.

 

According to 'RealOEM.com', the stock RSB is 17MM for the '09 Clubman and Clubman S.

 

If you go to Penske part for MINIs you can find a lot of this information. This is what I have collected for MINI RSBs:
Justa 16mm
S 17mm
Sports 18mm
JCW 18.5mm

Don't forget that the sizes noted above are without the coating so what you probably have is the 17mm bar if you measured over the coating. That bar is about 27% stiffer than the Justa bar and should be noticeable but not dramatic.

 

You may need to measure the bar that is on your Clubman to know for sure. Penske lists both a 16mm and 17mm for the base model and 17mm for the S.

With a Clubman you most likely have a 17mm bar stock. I wouldn't bother going through the work to upgrade just to an 18mm. Save your money and when your ready got to the Hsport Comp bar or at least a 19mm. We've installed just 18mm bars before and it just leaves you disappointed mid corner as the car starts to rotate then nothing happens.

 

I can verify that my factory "sport" sway bar was 18mm.

I upgraded to the Hcomp bar that Way sells. Im very pleased with it (still am a year later)..
