Tire Pressure Indicator On (Red) but PSI okay?
Tire Pressure Indicator On (Red) but PSI okay?
Hi
I'm running on run flats. Just finishing up an 8 hour drive yesterday the tire pressure indicator came on (red). Checked the tire pressure all they are all okay (within 1 psi). Any ideas?
Canadian Mini. I got the car about 4 months ago, 2012 MCS. 18" wheels. No issues so far, tires are original, about 35000 km on the car, a bit less on the tires (we have mandatory winter tire usage).

If the pressures are OK just reset the system. It doesn't monitor absolute pressure values, it looks for changes from the level that you choose using a reset. If you got the car four months ago it was probably a lot hotter than it is today, and it sounds like the pressures may have been set quite high. Lower temperature causes lower pressure. Just get the pressures where you want, then reset. The procedure for that is in the owner's manual, basically you use the button on the end of the left stalk.
Thanks. All pressures were reading about 35/36.
Unusually the temperature yesterday was about the same as it was when I bought the car (unseasonably warm weekend).
I will reset the monitor at lunch.
Another question:
The manual makes reference to some cars being equipped with a "tire pressure monitor" while others have a "flat tire monitor". I assume this proves there is such a thing as a stupid question, but how do I know which one my car has?

tpms has a map of your car and points to which tire is low , older systems just go by rpm diff in a wheel, ie if the tire is flat the rpm has to be higher for smaller diameter, works with the ABS sensors.
But CA car may have different system, aye

It is not giving me any indication as to which tire is (allegedly) low, so assume I have the flat tire monitor.
could be a faulty abs/speed sensor, 2012 ? under warranty ? Take it in.
