Boot won't unlock with key in ignition

My wife has been complaining about this problem for some time.

She can't unlock the boot unless she shuts off the car and removes the key from the ignition. The unlock button on the dashboard only works for the doors but not the boot hatch.

We tried the 'all doors unlock' settings change and the 'auto lock off' settings change and no luck.

Even when the car is completely unlocked and the hatch is popped with the keyfob, upon closing it again it ends up locked, and again we need to use the keyfob to unlatch it.

Is there a setting I'm missing?

Ahhh,

I've got a 2010 R56 Justa with the same issue. I'll be looking at this thread to see if a solution comes up. Hopefully we find out something!

If I am understanding your description it sounds like you have a bad switch on the hatch trim button. It is not uncommon and requires replacing the trim strip.

Just a wild guess but isn't that part of the safety features? The doors lock when the speedo hits 10MPH and they don't unlock until the key is removed, at least that's so on the 1st Gen. Otherwise you have to pull the door latch twice to open a door. I'll bet that is true of the boot latch as well. Besides, it's not really a good idea for the driver to exit the car with the engine still running. There are documented horror stories relating to that in almost every town and village.

My 2008 began to do that, and shortly afterward the microswitch in the trunk lid failed because the rubber cover had worn away. I think these two situations were related.
