Blipping the throttle

Back in the old days we could clean a lot of junk out of the intake system by spraying carb cleaner, etc into the carb/throttle body while blipping the throttle. Is there any way to do that from under the hood, or do I have to have a friend in the drivers seat?

A can of BG 44K once or twice a year and an Italian tune up quite a bit more often works just fine.

I was hoping for a button on the TB or such that would blip it. Oh, well. I use Chevron fuel system cleaner and twice a year I drive Portland, OR to Michigan at high speed, 80-85 acorss Montana and ND. That should do it.

Others have alluded to this, but I'll state it directly. These throttle body assemblies are drive by wire so do not use chemicals on the throttle body as it may damage sensors. Just use the indirect chemicals such as BG"s 44k. That stuff works great for these cars!

Italian tune up

In a few days I'll be driving to Oregon from Michigan, a couple of fuel system cleaner bottles and 85-90mph for 600+miles across Montana and ND ought to do it.

I once had a car with no usable compression in one cyl. I suspected stuck rings cause all other cyl were OK. I don't like taking a motor apart unless it is a last resort. I took carb cleaner and put it directly into the cylinders, an ounce or so, through the plug holes. I kept replenishing it as the day went on. I also put a socket on the crank bolt and moved it back and forth a little bit all day long. The carb cleaner I figured would loosen the piston carbon, and the rocking the pistons would squish (tech term) the cleaner around the ring groove and the rings would loosen the ring groove carbon. Result: FULL COMPRESSION returned.
