Chirping noise at freeway speeds near center console/exhaust?

Hi all!

The most annoying noise has developed and I'm totally stumped. It occurs around 70-80mph and just won't stop. From the inside, it's emanating from directly under the e-brake lever. I got under the car and tried to replicate the noise by moving around the exhaust, but to no avail. It sounds to me like exhaust hangers vibrating. I'm curious to hear if you guys have experienced something similar or if you might have any ideas as to what it could be. Check you a video of the noise >>>

It's much louder and more pronounced in the cabin than the video shows.

Cheers,
Brandon

I have know idea what it is but that would drive me nuts.

Have you pulled up the boot to the ebrake to investigate?

I did while this was happening, actually, and though I couldn't find anything mechanically that would be causing the sound in that area (the e-brake mechanism is relatively simple and unchanged over the last couple of decades), the sound did get louder, perhaps as a result of removing the boot, thus removing one more layer between the source and my ears. I think I might get under the car again this weekend and be a bit more scrutinizing.

Not sure what it could be but wondering if a wire is lose or the bracket/bolt cant think of the name that holds it to the body is loose but as stated no idea. Ive heard this on a bicycle before was one of the break wires wasn't bolted down and would rattle on the frame.

Do you guys think it could be a cat failure? The car only has 53,000 miles on it, and this doesn't sound like what I'm used to hearing as a cat failure. IDK...

No. To me It sounds like something is loose/rubbing.

Hmmm, OK after reading those links, I think it could be brake-related. Though I don't think it's necessarily parking brake related. The reason why I think this is because, ever since we got the car from the dealer (CPO), the steering wheel has a slight vibration when braking at highway speeds. To me this indicates slightly warped rotors. I'm wondering if the rotor warpage results in a slight rubbing against the pads at high speeds, enough to make the noise.

I noticed this same noise a few months ago and I get it about 70-75mph on the freeway. It is driving me insane.

Sounds like it might be a loose heat shield.

So I drove home on the freeway the other day and heard this noise at about 75 mph. Just to test I pulled the emergency brake up at speed just enough for the pads to contact the rotors and the sound stopped. It has to be a problem at the back brakes that is traveling through the emergency brake cable and into the cabin.

IIIIIIiiinteresting. Could this happen if the parking brake shoes were just barely rubbing the inside of the rotor?

Could be that. I might try to pull the pads off and put a little high temp silicon between the back of the pad and the caliper to make sure they pull away from the rotor when the brakes aren't depressed.
